Unhappy new guy looking for opinions.

so after a heck of a lot of research, i bought a 2010 four wheel hawk and a 2011 silverado 1500 4x4, regular cab, short box. i was told previously, by the canadian distributor of fwc, that it was the perfect truck to fit the camper. i wanted the regular cab so the over-cab would actually be over the cab. i am loving the camper. i am loving the truck. but, the camper actually sits up a bit higher than i expected it to, specifically over the cab. i took the thick rubber mat out from under it and took off the rubber stoppers. now it is passable. its just a bit lower and further in. still, i had envisioned the over-the-cab part to sit just a couple of inches above the cab, not a foot above. am i wrong? ive looked at hundreds of photos. mine is a bit high.

did you buy the camper new ?

    or used ?

what truck was the camper originally built for ?

with extra details I might (might?) be able to help with tips & tricks.

    thanks

hey stan; thanks for connecting with me. i bought the camper used. in regard to your question about what truck was it made for, i don't really understand that. hawks are made for full sized, short bed trucks according to your website. and gary, your canadian distributor, told me directly that i should purchase a chevy silverado as being the perfect fit. now i find it sitting a bit too high. i'll try to post a photo.

ps; the camper is only a 2010. it's not like it's some really
old model. also, before i can figure out how to post pics, i can assure you it doesn't fit like your photo...

Maybe it was a special model built for a Ford Superduty, they have a higher cab height. If that is the case and if you bought if from a FWC dealer I think they should have told you this.

dear homemade; thats a good point. its a hawk, but i did buy it from a dealer secon-hand. you may be right. anyway, i took a thick rubber mat out from underneath it, took those heavy rubber stoppers off from the front, so it sits just slightly forward and down a bit. its a very subtle difference that is making a big difference in my mind. now i have to protect the truck bed a bit: foam tape over screws, mayve thin rubber mat underneath...

Maybe a small rack on your cab would "close" the space and make you feel better about it.??? I have seen ones with rotax fuel bottles...
