seems like it could be a squeaker, with two items not meant to mate together. also, being able to access through the sunroof, how does that work with it being the bed floor? i know it wouldn't work for me, i'm short, so getting in from the sunroof would be far more difficult than a ladder. also don't like the sideways A shape. the idea is neat, to keep from being a brick on top of a brick, but i've found my maggi doesn't affect my mileage, so i wouldn't purchase it for myself. would be better fuel mileage vs/ the soft tents though

    .

Why did you decide to make the top hinge at the front? You lose so much interior volume compared to a horizontal top, and it sure looks like you couldn't sit upright and get dressed in there.
    Seems ok for Columbus...

Gas mileage is 15mpg . This is on the ugly prototype. The finished product will be in aluminum. Seals great no leaks or squeaks
as for sitting up and moving around no problem. Rear egress is preferred "see ladder entry in one of many videos" Pop Top Tent

If you built to go on a roof rack, you can sell to other people with different models of vehicles.

    Kermit,

The intent of the pop top roof tent was to eliminate the roof rack so the pop top could sit on the roof top. Our poll show's what people want even though the response is limited. This 80 series has been in testing for over a year with great success on, and off road.

Yeah, only so many 80's on the road...so if it the roof-tent is model specific you are only going to sell so many. As others have said, have the entrance coming off the back is going to be a deal breaker for most. So you made the niche even smaller.

Looks to me that 60/80/100 owners might be willing to go for a model specific roof top tent, only if the access area is larger, ie: cutting the roof open.
It looks like the magic resale number that is $3000...few people are willing to pay $6000.

You can read about that in this thread.

    kermit,

Thanks for your input Kermit. Our pricing is not set yet as we still have lots of adjustments to make. Our goal was not to get to market in a rush. Our goal is for long term customer satisfaction. We are almost ready to put up our next stage to the project. The prototype is ready, and just needs to be mounted on the 80 series cruiser. To answer another question of yours....are we focusing just on the 80 series market...( No) our product will include just about every SUV on the road.

Thank you for visiting. Just got my "pop top tent" on my "80 series Land Cruiser". Look over the pictures, and give me your thoughts. The "roof top tent" can be accessed via the sun roof, and a ladder from the back of the cruiser. I will build a similar rig for all interested. This provides a semi-permanent solution. 1 minute
to open up, and crawl into bed. http://80seriespoptop.blogspot.com
