Default GUN RACK MOUNTING OPTIONS - Anyone ever mounted a Sky-Bar / Big Sky gun rack?

We're looking for ideas to mount an overhead gun rack inside the cab of our 2001 extra-cab Chevrolet Silverado. (they can be used to hold fly rods too)

We like the overhead racks because any firearms are almost impossible to see, especially with tinted windows. Plus, it keeps them up and out of the way.

We like the type here at Big-Sky/Sky Bar racks: http://www.bigskyracks.com/products/sporting-racks/bsr/

The PROBLEM is figuring out where to drill the bolt holes in the ceiling of the cab. HAS ANYONE EVER MOUNTED ONE OF THESE IN A CHEVY SILVERADO? We're trying to avoid drilling needless holes all in the headliner.

If you have any better rifle or pistol rack options, please let us know. Thanks! )

I had a big sky overhead AR15 rack in my Silverado. It was very easy to . I removed the trim to find the metal to drill into, marked the trim and screwed in the bar. It was rock solid.

    $60 - $90 from Cabelas at http://www.cabelas.com/product/Big-S...h-All+Products.

I'm looking at some that lock too. Looking at the locking racks under "Law Enforcement" at http://www.bigskyracks.com/. I guess you could always run a cable lock through a normal rack - anything to slow down a "smash and grab" theft. But like they say, a thief can eventually get anything with enough time and motivation.

I just mounted a Big Sky Security rack (LEO) in a 2007 F150 squad last month. It is easy. Our installers have put them in a 2000 and something Chevrolet Silverado/ Burb without issue. Problem with the newer vehicles is the curtain airbags. Cannot use the ceiling mount with curtain airbag equipted vehicles.

The LE mounting bar was attached to the latch point where the two doors meet. It is a hard spot. The installers who helped out said the mounted it to the same point in the Cheverolet.

I don't think you will have any issues in a 2001.
