RTT on expo trailer....What about your dogs?

(beans)

Observer
I'm lucky enough to have two amazing dogs, a 9 year old German Shepherd, and a 4 year old Shepherd/Belgian Malinois. I'm trying to figure out how long trips with them would go if we were to start using a RTT on an expo trailer...

Putting them in the Jeep seems like the only reasonable way to go, but I'd really like having them in the tent...plus they're like my shadow, and separating them from us might not go well.

Anyone out there have some sort of solution to the dog conundrum, a ramp up to the RTT maybe?

Thanks in advance...

When I was doing the RTT thing, my dog slept on the ground next to the Jeep, or in the Jeep itself if I didn't want her wandering off (IE: others were camped nearby, coyotes were around, etc).

IMO - dogs (or other pets) don't belong in the bed. Their place is on the floor (ground in this case).

Eezi-Awn Globetrotter?

We have an Eezi-Awn Globetrotter. We crate the dogs in the lower portion at night. Works well.

I tried to upload an image, but unfortunately the site returned some kind of error message.

I lift my border collie into the tent on my Chaser, she can get down on her own.

There are some vids on YouTube or dogs getting into roof top tents on both trailers and roofs on rigs.
Can not pull up the links right now...

I also have two large dogs and plan on an RTT for my trailer. Since I want the dogs near, I will be getting the additional annex most sell that hangs from the tent to ground level. I really like the Howling Moon Trailer tent but I havn't won the lottery yet.

Trailer wise you don't have to have the tent openning to the sides - as then you have to either make rising supports on run into it all the time

First trailer had the rising supports

The second oppening to front meant the dog self installed himself in the tent using the drop down rear.

as you get higher its more work to lift him up.....but still possble

My 80lb German shepherd has no problem climbing into my RTT. But he has only spent one night in there. Usually he stays in the back of my Jeep or outside. But then again, the back of my jeep has pretty much been tailor made for him and he really enjoys it back there.

Ha ha!
That is the dog above, I guess I had seen the pics before, and not a video.
I remember seeing the dog a few years ago.
Was I right on the breed?
Great looking dog.

Close enough on the dog

he's a Weimeraner out of germany bred to hunt deer, silver grey is the color as per the originals..

the brown similar looking hounds are Vislers - also crazy hyper dogs

Your american Blue one is a contrived inbred - also the size in the US is usually a lot larger- not the smaller more athletic builds of the european dogs.

He's getting old now - he'll be 9 in jan- and is not a muscley as when he was in best form, getting him castrated aswell took away that stallion look and zero body fat.

We had him done after we found out he had a represed gene issue - his last pups turned out standard silver with doberman tan shades to the legs and chest, something to do with the ***** and the dog having the same gene.

Doberman was part of the original breeding package used for intelligence and strength in the weimies makeup

he''s fine on the trailer height to jump down , - he used to jump from the explorer- but not any more.

Our 100lb German Shepherd climbs in the tent with us, she can climb the ladder and get her front paws up on the mattress but we have to give her the extra push to make the breakover. I think if she had something to grip other than a slick mattress she could do it?

I think with two dogs it would get tight in the tent, heck even with our one dog it gets tight as they seem to demand more space than a human considering their stretched out sleeping position. I would look into building a custom annex under the tent that allows you to have them covered and secure.

I have two dogs as well. I can see wanting them to be with me while camping, but putting them in the RTT is not going to happen. They are Dogs for crying out loud.
Put up a small pup tent for them to proteect them from the elements if needed. My Ridgeback would be able to clear the RTT with no problem . He is a leaper, but
not the ole lady. she is 16 years and not in a hurry to do anything but eat and take her naps. It almost seems cruel to have them climb and jumo like that if their
legs and joints are nt use to the impact. Just my two pennies.
