Portable satellites???

The VuQube receives satellite TV from Dish Network or DirecTV. You attach it to the appropriate receiver, pay some money to the provider and get to watch most anything you have on home cable TV for about the same cost. It's usually better economically if you have the same service at home and add this to your current subscription.

This is basically a portable version of the sat TV receivers you see on RVs where they either lie flat on the roof or are enclosed in a dome, as on my Sprinter.

The advantage to the component you found is that it requires no installation and can be transferred from vehicle to vehicle. On the permanent installations, you have to put some holes through your roof, both for mounting and for cables to run through. It's also the case that since the satellite TV signal is line of sight and can be blocked by trees, steep hills, etc., there's sometimes an advantage to being able to easily reorient the antenna. Even so, don't get your hopes up if you're camping in heavy forest or canyon floor.

If you don't like the looks of that one, you can also get the same idea in a carryable hemisphere:

or you can, for less money, get the antenna parts in a case:

or even the raw, do-everything-yourself, dish to set up and aim:

In general, you drag any of these out of wherever you carry it and put it somewhere with a line of sight to the satellite (the receiver helps you point it, plus they sell compass-like things to help you aim). You connect up to your TV with a coaxial cable like you have at home from the cable outlet to the TV. You cannot, as a rule, successfully watch anything while moving; that takes a considerably more expensive permanent setup.

These have been around for a while and they work well enough, but are subject to problems with weather and obstructions. Plenty of reviews around. But if you want entertained in the middle of nowhere, satellite TV is worth considering.
