My niece is currently serving in the Peace Corps in Guatemala, so this could be a good opportunity to visit her down there. Definitely an interesting idea.

Two possibilities: The contest might help people see there is little to fear from a road trip across Mexico. Or the flashy vehicles with prominent rally markings might be a tempting target for criminals and the Mexican traffic police.

thanks all for the positive feedback so far!

there are obviously many obstacles and logistics to sort out. But I think with the right spirit, this could be a very exciting and fun challenge.

We are still brainstorming about all this but I would like to take a decision quickly, so keep sending your thoughts!

I think it is an outstanding idea! I would like to particapate, it would simply depend on available funds at the time for me. As far as actual time to do the trip, I would be able to do it during December.

We have long been joking about doing a cool end of the world trip..
Making it in Mexico as part of the Mayan thing is super cool.
Me & mine are in depending on the dates...I would want to make it worth the doing (as in not too fast a trip) but no way to make it more than 3-4 weeks without messing up the work thing (I am already taking 2 months off to travel to Oz this summer)

now everyone say "so what where have you been lately?"

Just talked with my wife about this. Christian, if you make this happen, we're all in.
