Spence, if you want to keep the top of the cap white, you can use "gravel guard" which is made for rocker panels and is PAINTABLE. I use it in place of bedliner on bumpers etc. it comes in spray cans and costs much much less.

4BT- Yes it is a ARE canopy. The sides were pretty easy to get out. Drill out rivets and remove screws from top and sides then cut the bottom with a cutoff wheel. Took me a couple hours.
Redtheis- Thanks for the recommendation I'll have to check it out. I need to repaint the rockers on my truck too.

look into this for the roof coating. http://www.mobilehomeadvantage.com/s..._id/238/ID/23/
they sell another version at lowes for around 25 a gal.
it is a elastomer coating that will reflect heat/water seal/ deaden noise from the rainfall. it also comes in white.
at lowes its called blackjack ultra roof 1000.
Love your mods so far.. Sounds like you guys have a great time!![]()

Some FatMat on the tin portions of the roof should help turn the rain noise down some. Maybe some Peel N Seal from the roofing section at HD or Lowes at a minimum, although it might smell.... IDK. Ive heard of the Peel n Seal being used as a cheap alternative to DynaMat/FatMat.
So after a break from the portal and taking some trips not much has changed on the truck. The battery and inverter are installed although I need a stronger battery. However, a lot has changed in our lives. We have been packing for the past two weeks and are moving to Colorado Thursday morning. I will be updating slowly from now on until the major rework happens to the truck, which will include a pop top camper. Stay tuned!

Good luck with the move! You are going to miss Oregon and the coast I bet. Where in Colo are you headed?

We actually didn't visit the coast too much. I feel like if I want to go to the beach I want some good weather and 10 months out of the year that's just not at the Oregon coast haha. It is a very cool place, but rather depressing with bad weather in my opinion. We will miss Oregon but we still have family here so visits should be often. We will be located in the Boulder area, incredible scenery!
We will be just outside of Boulder so probably an hour away from your area I think. Thanks for the kind words and I hope to make some new friends here in the expedition community. I hope you weren't affected by the fires in that area. Are there any others still going?
