Tearing Down and Superwinch EPi9.0

Ok, I am going to tear down my Supewinch EPi9.0 to do a refurbishment. First, what type of grease would you recommend for the repacking? Second, any tips on painting the aluminum housing?

Has anyone ever seen any tear down threads/videos for these?

I'd stick with what ever spec. grease Superwinch recommends. Can't go wrong with that and no guessing. As for painting aluminum, I'd glass bead the aluminum parts, shoot it with epoxy primer and top coat it with what ever paint you like. The key is to prep it and get a good coat of primer to stick to it. Suppose you could powder coat it too but once it chips it's not easy to touch up.

Post some pictures of your progress.

I got nothing for you help wise, but if you could take some pictures as you're doing this and maybe a little writeup about it would be sweet.....I'm sure my EPi9.0 will benefit from your work someday.

I have this totally torn down to every single component. I even torn down the motor. Everything was spotless. If you have any questions please let me know. The powdercoaters currently have all the body parts. It is amazingly simple on the inside.

Superwinch recommends white lithium grease. That is what I will be using for the reassembly. Luckily mine did not look like any of these on the inside. Mine was absolutely spotless...like it had just come off the line. However, my powder coat looked really bad.

Here are two good threads on tear downs.

Thanks for sharing this! Can you describe the usage of this winch? Weight of vehicle, age of winch, estimated times it was used, was is submerged in muddy water and if so how often, was the vehicle stored outside in a rainy climate or any thing else to describe its age.

Besides the motor brushes did you replace any other parts?

Mine looked better than either one of the threads I found and posted. My motor looked like it had never seen use and the grease was still translucent red. I don't really use my winch that much and I doubt it had ever been under water. Sadly, it was just the powder coating that took a beating. I don't know if it was the Mag Chlor that we use in Colorado or the fact that this winch was from when the EPs first came out and the Powder Coating was not done correctly. Either way it is getting redone now.
