I was being trained on the Hassy system this morning when I heard of that Canon release.

A nice camera to be sure, but I'm not jealous. In fact, I'm kind of 'over' DSLR's.

The Hasselblad H3D gives me a 239mb file. It's crazy nuts sweet.

I'll post some 'real life' examples when they start 'trickling' in.

Think I'll wait to see what the 5D upgrade will look like. Would like to have seen the 40D with a full-frame sensor, but it probably doesn't fit their product placement scheme.

Seems like a very generous upgrade package over the 30D. Weather-proofing, larger buffer, larger screen, speed, new AF system, and dust reduction are very tempting. The live view is unnecessary, as is sRAW. Would be nice to get company for the 20D in my pack.

The 1Ds line is very sweet, and the Hassleblad, well.. I don't expect to ever be in that arena.

Couple of sites I use to read about the new Canons-

    It's all about utilization.

I always preferred HSBLD 2.25" for studio work with live talent and non-large format print reproduction.

They didn't work as well as the 4x5" or 8x10" for very large reproduction or setups that required multiple lens and film plane orientations.

I don't see digitization of the process changing that much.

And if you are 2-up on a motorcycle in sub-Saharan Africa or the deserts of the Middle East with two bags of photo kit, then the concept of a 2.25" is a complete non-starter.

With the current state-of-the-state, digital 2.25" shines toward the "controlled environments" end of the spectrum. A 35mm DLSR is stronger on the "un-controlled / random / rapidly changing environments" end of the scale.

It will be interesting to see how much the 1Ds MkIII's 20.1 mp sensor encroaches on the heretofore 2.25"-only 100+MB file market, i.e. static studio, fashion, product, architectural, etc.

I get tired enough lugging around a 1DS all day! I can't imagine taking an H3D out on the trail. I am jealous that you get to use one though.

Default EOS 1Ds Mk3 and onwards

Until the EOS 1Ds Mk2 I was reluctant to let go of my EOS 3 and now I am faced with the decision of moving on to yet another body. When I was using the EOS 3, I especially liked the eye controlled focus for fast moving wildlife shots and just wish Canon had carried this to the EOS 1D & 1Ds cameras. I have heard Canon argue that there is no demand from 'professional' phototographers for eye controlled focus, but I still live in hope that Canon will bring back ECF on their pro cameras. For those that don't like it can be switched off!

While I am happy enough to see more megapixels, what I would really like to see is multi spectral sensors picking up the UV and IR bands. This would certainly add some new dimensions to photography that at present are only available with specialist instruments.

Mean time I guess it's Ds Mk3 here I come! Sounds like a great tool to record travels.

    best regards from David Gudmunsen

PS Anyone want to buy a couple of EOS 1DS Mk2s. LOL Such is life.
