This is the build happening in the 'Ute for Overlanding' thread? I've been watching that one, too ... though for the sake of my marriage (and bank account) I may have to stop. Sounds like a great little runabout ... hope it comes together the way you want it to.

Thanks, ya that is the one. I am really just putting it all together using stuff from a built up 83 160-series Patrol I had. With all these parts just laying around I might as well just do something with them and the Ute will be a good fit. On top of that I gave away the Ute's stock engine, trans & t-case plus f&r axles. Also I have these two PTO winches plus f&r PTO boxes so I really should do something with it. Makes sense to set the Ute up with f&r PTO winches and will be easy to do on the rear under the bed. I thought it could even make a good recovery vehicle if set up this way.

Are you sure the mileage didn't roll over? The oil change slip from 1972 shows 29158 miles

wrong Patrol. That slip is from a 66 hard top that came with the 66 soft top. That truck has 42,000 original miles. The speedo works on the soft top, I rolled it over 1/2 mile, I see no reason why it would have failed all these years. The speedo is all mechanical.

From what I have seen, most Patrols in the USA have not rolled over. It gets kind of obvious if they have as many things won't be untouched. Holes drilled in bodies, aftermarket turn signals and tail lights, electric fuel pump, alternator, non-stock head lights, gauges changed out and much more are all tell tale signs a Patrol has seen some use over the years. 100% original and you can pretty much be sure the mileage is under 100k. These two trucks were used for the low mileage and then parked many years ago for whatever reasons. That is my opinion based on both trucks and the info I have.

I think a number of the low mileage ones that have turned up recently are truly that. Several I know of have sat for years and spent 40yrs with the original owner. So they were taken care of and only used for hunting trips or similar limited use. The wagon pictured earlier in the thread was off the road since 1987.

It is indeed 15,500 original miles. Very obvious by some many items on this truck being original, down to the friggin' fan belt! Even the sticker on the front diff is present. The original Toyo spare is even here...


Very cool - hopefully the bearings are still good and a set of rings, a bottle hone, and a new head gasket will be all it takes return this beast to life...

Like I said earlier- looks like a good score on these two Patrols :)

I got a cousin in Oakland too so will spend the night with him on Saturday. The Patrol looks to good to pass up, no rust! Yes it is true, I have a passion for these trucks or is it an addiction.

I am all for it! Never have had anyone contact me from the Middle East though. I would be happy to restore a Patrol for anyone!

I spent some time separating all the plated parts. A few items I even stuck in their final resting place. Amazing to me how these 50yr old parts came back to life. To me this is what restoring is all about! I am sure I have said it before but much of this hardware gets painted body color. Nissan however plated most if not all of these parts before paint. Something I didn't fully know until these items got sand blasted. While blasting you could see the plating under the paint. Our point in doing the plating is so if/when items get chipped they don't bleed rust. Probably the same reason Nissan plated it all.

Sad to say but in another 50 years I don't think you could do this do a 2014 vehicle.

Agree, way to much plastic these days. Hence one of the reasons I love old trucks! And on that note, this Patrol should outlast most 2014 vehicles by a long shot. :)

Excellent build. Had to chuckle. You and I, and countless others I'm sure, use the same salsa cups for parts organization. :)

Thanks and yup, best salsa there is so have lot's of containers around! Good eye! ;)

Just a taste of what is to come, original bolts and locking washer tabs for the Warn hubs I had plated.
