    Default Water Question

I have completed the White Rim Trail twice in my old Jeep. Now I am considering doing it on my bike. My biggest concern is water. I need to know how to have enough water. If you have experience with this trail and hauling water please chime in and let me know the solution.

I've not ridden that particular ride, but I might offer a couple solutions. For one...go fast. Seriously, the longer you drag out these dry sections, the more water you need, mostly as it relates to adding days to the endeavor. I've had to turn a two day section in a one day section just to reduce the need for water for meals alone.

Secondly, I see very few options for carrying more than 7 liters of water on a bike. For these types of rides, I use a frame bag as it allows me to put a three liter flexible water reservoir in the frame bag at a low point on the bike. That makes for better balance. The other three go on my back in a hydration pack. I can then sometimes find a home for another liter on my bars, frame bag or pack. Anything more than that.....B.O.B. trailer. At that point things start to suck.

I suppose you could go for a rack and then stash another few liters, but then you're talking about massive weight on the bike.

I have just purchased a used BOB Yak in good condition, but I'd hate to have to haul to much weight. I guess I really don't have much choice.

If you think you can knock out that ride in two days, you should be able to carry enough water unless temps are high. I'm pretty good with the long, dry rides. Drink like a fish before you head out. Consume your water in small amounts consistantly throughout your ride, and resist drinking it in big chugs fewer times during the day. Use dehydrated meals, or go stoveless to reduce the need for water for meal prep. Definitely have water available at the end....you'll be thirsty.

Two long days with 7-8 liters is doable. Three is not.

I don't know anything about the White Rim trail. I'm assuming there are no springs, creek, or any natural water sources?
