Hi guys, first of all let me introduce myself. My name is Rosader and I am brand new to the forum. I just bought a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport (basically a second generation Amigo) and I noticed right away that there really isn't much cargo room in these things at all. I have A LOT of camping gear so I need some way to haul it. I was searching my options online, looking at roof-top cargo baskets (doesn't really work with my removable top), then there are the hitch mounted cargo boxes (I imagine these are not a good option for off-road), then, finally I came across these 1/4 ton military trailer builds and I immediately fell in love with the idea of a trailer project that I can put my creativity into! I have since been looking high and low for a trailer and they seem to be very scarce (and expensive!)
I found one on ebay that is 500 miles away from me but I think my chances of winning are not great as I have to factor in the cost of fuel to drive there and back when deciding on my maximum bid. That auction ends Tuesday so in the meantime a friend told me about a local military surplus yard. I called them up and asked if they had any 1/4 ton trailers and the guy said no. I asked if he knew of anyone in the valley that might have one for sale and he told me he has a friend with a M100 and he gave me his number. I called the guy and he told me he has one in somewhat rough shape and he wants $1,200. He said it's missing the data plate and it has had a tailgate cut. He said he has another one that is in good shape but it's missing the axle and springs. I thought about it for a while and I'm thinking I don't want the one with a tailgate cut but as far as the other one goes, I have no idea what an axle and springs would cost or where I would even find them?
I am going to go look at them tomorrow but what should I offer for the M100 without an axle and springs?
