Counting the days until a new big fat shop for me! 34 and counting! :)

Pissing rain and sleet here lately so really looking forward to a full sized shop.

Top priority for me when I get into the shop is,

Get the 62 on a rotisserie, dump the rest of it.
Pull the portal axles from the Patrol and strip them
Buy front King C/O's!
Get the motor and trans sitting in the chassis, the motor is going to get details out. I was not happy with the results from the builder, so will be painting the engine again as well as detailing it out.
Get suspension done!

I have four trucks going in the shop right off the bat. Three are mine. My 77 Patrol also takes priority over the Mongrel but with tons of room I plan to be working on three of the four often.

Cheers

Hey Ian,
This is Jake who you got the frame from. Looking forward to seeing this thing come together!
You say you are getting a new shop. Are you building at your place, renting, something new entirely or?? I ask because I am trying to get my house on the market and am planning a 32'x48' shop with an apartment above to build on a rental property I have now. I'm always interested in what other are up to. I'll be in your area this spring to surf Lunch Counter when it comes in maybe we can grab a beer.

Ya no worries Jake, give a call. I hope to be on the river a bit this spring too but am slammed with work so who knows.

I am renting the shop right next to my house. Screaming deal, it is right here, my roomie wants to split cost or help with rent on it too, 2,000+sqft. so had to do it!

Been moving into the new shop this last week. Actually been cleaning up the big ****ty mess left by the guys who just moved out. Building shelves and benches too. Got the Mongrel chassis moved in last weekend though so progress! Slowly but surely things are happening.

I took the plunge yesterday and bought an NOS FJ62 dash pad for this project. Not a cap or anything like that, the actual NOS pad. Damn it that hurt to buy, I am embarrassed to say what I paid! I have been planning on buying one for awhile but kept putting it off and putting it off. Now they are NLA so I figured if I wanted an NOS one I better snatch up one of the last few out there even if it was anal-rapage on price. Bottom line, I wanted an NOS cap and so I bought one. The one I have is super trashed, no windshield in the truck for years has left it seriously wasted. I been looking for a nice clean used 62 pad for several years and always miss out. So I said f'-it took the plunge and shelled out for an NOS pad. I also bought an NOS windshield gasket for the truck. I almost bought a bunch of other body rubber but everything I have is in really good shape. So holding out on that stuff a while longer, hopefully the NOS stock doesn't dry up any time real soon!

This is in great shape and should compliment the dash pad nicely....

I wasn't sure which one of my threads to post this in but since I have talked about it in this one might as well post it up here.

So we got our shop on June 1st. The last tenants left a huge friggin' mess that took us two weeks to clean up. Tons of trash, toxic paint/solvents, ect ect. Had to clean it all out and pressure wash it to the ceiling. Since then we have been building shelves, work benches and so forth. Still a long ways from being done and how we want it but here is some pics.

Built this bench last night, all of it besides the cap is made from recylced materials left laying around the property.

A bench and shelf combo, not 100% finished. Several of these benches we are capping with steel.

16ft of shelves built. Need more but this is a start.

Pretty big shop, over 2,000sqft.

Need to do a lot of work over on this side but we are still using it the way it is. That is a Tuktuk being restored in the LHS corner. A project my roomie is doing.

All the steel needed to build a rolling fab table, 4x8ft in size.

The driveway was trashed and full of potholes. Not to mention all the silica in it from the last guys sand blasting in the driveway. It sucked badly as it would blow around dust/silica every time the wind blew. We have the whole thing graded, new crush and then mag'ed. Much better now.

Shop looks like a beauty now that you gotten most of it cleaned out aye and great work on the driveway. Between that shop and the view you have outside I'm jealous... I'm so sick of cities. Tuk Tuk Project sounds sweet too hahahahaha, man I've had some scary rides in those things down in SE Asia.

Can't wait to see what you start (or rather continue) cranking out of this new shop and how the "Mongrel" progresses from here. The progress so far is inspiring and I can;t wait to see how she comes together. At the rate you get things done, you'll have the shop decked out, have the old Patrols done and the Mongrel on the road before I ever get my KZN130 Hilux fired up and drive it.

Cheers

Dave
