it is probably better that you dont have the budget yet. It forces you to learn the vehicle you have, it limits, and yours. Then when you do have the funds, what you want or need to do to the truck for the way you us it is a lot more apparent.

That is what I am learning lately. The truck has seemed capable so far, no scares yet. I have been surprised. Like I said before the only concern is size. I know you drive a full-size and that makes me feel confident about when I get to Big Bear. It would be nice to actually get on the trail with other full-size drivers and maybe learn more about the capabilities of the truck. I feel for what we are using it for now it is serving it's purpose. My goal being back country exploration and camping, a long with road trips. My long term goal being a south of the border adventure(not for a few years though). Thanks!

Dodges are awesome, even stock, I had on 04 2500 2wd that I took all over the place, and only got it stuck twice. (once was pure stupidity on the driver, me)

My Dodge.....

1992 Dodge W250, regular cab, longbed
Intercooled Cummins 6bt, 5spd manual, np205 t-case, D70 rear, D60 front, 3.54 gears, rear powr-lok diff

1410 front driveshaft
Leveling springs in front
Crossover steering conversion

Sectioned and stretched fenders, 6" rear, 8" front

Old pic above with 325/85/16 Michelin tires ( 38.5" tall )
Now on 38.5x13.5x17 Pitbull Maddog Radial tires with 17x9, 5" BS, black steel wheels ( 3600lbs per corner load ratting min )

Custom minimal front bumper with recovery points

$100 craigslist camper shell
Marine plywood wrapped with Marine carpet on the floor of the bed
Old Futon mattress to sleep on.
Full size spare up against the drivers bed rail ahead of the wheel tub ( perfect location! )

The truck just flat works. Its simple enough to be reliable, gets 20mpg+ on the highway, 15-17 towing. The only real downside is the overall size. If you want to 'wheel it....its just too big. It works GREAT for everything else. I drive it daily to work, take it on 1000mile trips, tow my other junk around with it, haul stuff, camp in the back, etc.

I saw you and your awesome Dodge on the highway in Durango. I didn't have time to stalk you for answers whilst on my way to Farmington for work. Great truck, and you answered all my questions with your post.

I'm working on an '87 Ramcharger and liked the appearance of the big tires with little lift.

Some really cool full-size rigs in this tread. Mine is kinda of redundant of old threads but here she goes….

1978 K10 (my pet project since 1995)
6” lift comprised of a rear ORD shackle flip, 56” ¾ ton long bed springs, Superlift front springs, and ORD HD front shackles
Swapped in 14 bolt full-floating rear axle, 4:56 gears with Detroit Locker (want to replace it with a selectable locker...talk about a tire eater!)
Dana 44 front axle with 8 lug rotors from a ¾ ton, 4:56 gears and Detroit TrueTrac
1970’s GM dealer assessory front Hickey Sidewinder winch
12,000 lb rear winch
2005 GM MPFI Vortec 8.1L big block
2006 K2500 NV4500 5-speed manual transmission (brand new left over production trans).
Lots of other stuff….

Not really a build tread but a THREAD dedicated to this truck.

Few trip pics…
