Talking Newbie with a 1982 Popup Skamper (Trailer)

    Hey everyone,

I'm just beginning to tear into my little popup, so with that in mind before I get too deep into it I thought I'd look to see what resources I have available to me online I bought this little camper from a co-worker for $250!!!!! Don't let the price fool you though.. The tires/bearings are all new, canvas replaced around 5 years ago (maybe used once since then). Zero evidence of rodents (mice), and it's in moderately good shape. She came with a basic sink, 3 burner stove top, and a fridge or icebox. I've taken out the stove top to clean it up and my next project will be the lights. With some effort, we were able to get the tail/blinkers working to tow it home but I intend to replace both of those and all of the clearance lights as well. I'd like to go to fiber optics to save amps but that'll depend on the price.

I'll see if I can upload some pictures tonight but if anyone has any tips at all, please feel free to share.. I'm hoping to actually get her out to a park by early May (crossing fingers).

    -Matt

holy crap! that's awesome! I've never looked at a trailer style Skamper, but I and several others have the truck camper style skampers, and I recognize we both have the same electrical center, sink, stove top, and putrid looking upholstery and flooring. I'd bet the furnace is similar/same as well. We've posted some resources for refurbishing each of those items on here, and can be found by searching "skamper" in the pop-up section.

Make sure you get to take it out and enjoy it! Cool Skamp!

Is that a stainless steel cover I see on your grill? Could you take a better picture of that? I'd LOVE one of those!

Sweet little camper! Appliances, etc look very similar to my pop-up. As xdbx said, there are a few of us on here that have dug into the skampers. Youll have no problem getting her to shine again! Good luck!

After a closer look at the pics, your trailer used to have a front bed. Do you know why it was removed? Good deal on the trailer.

    Hey everyone!
I'm very sorry for not getting back to you sooner.. (live been pulled away with work).. This week im cramming in my evenings to get this baby ready for its maiden camping voyage this weekend!

Xdbx: Glad ya like it! And yes it is!I'll take a better pic for ya!
Funrover: Glad u approve - we'll see, as of now just clean it up and get it out there!
As for the front bed I'm not sure why it was removed.. but to be honest I'm very happy and a little impressed with how much room there Is.. overall the original owner had a lot of good ideas, but ive spent the past few nights fixing his "handywork".. I also installed Led lights around the top (in place of the worn out bulb lights - not sure if those were factory or the owner's addition).. I'll have to upload some pics soon, maybe from the camp site!
    I appreciate the links too!

    Thanks all!
