Default 1991 3/4 ton suburban. Bought it. Now time to build it.

Bought a 1991 3/4 ton suburban. Looked at a lot of them. Found this one off craigslist. Drove about two hours to look at it and took it home. 4" rough country lift. Brand new Nitto muds. 37x12.50x17's, 350 motor 700r4 trans. Interior is pretty clean.

Now to build the Battle Burb.

Dropped it off at my friends shop here in town. Needed new steering box, brake caliper, swapped front and rear end to 4.56. already had a chevy posi in it.

While we were waiting to get it back I ordered some husky heavy duty floor mats off amazon. that was the very first purchase for the suburban. Also ordered a set of Rigid LED's. I have been wanting to try a set and see how they are. I got the D2 duallies.

I have a bunch of MTR 37's and humvee wheels so that what will go on.

I want an Alumines front bumper and rear bumper with tire carrier and fuel swing outs but they wont make one for the 91. Looked at Blazen off road and they are out of business. Looking at a few other options but nothing I was totally stoked with. So will have something made local here. Will do a front bumper with full grill guard that will hold a full size winch. I have a Warn M12000 I will use till I get something larger.

Will do a rear bumper (maybe with a winch) that will carry a full size 37 and fuel cells that will have dual swing outs that lock open.

Full length rock sliders with a drop down step yet still will function as a slider.

full length roof rack with a front light cage as well as lights on the sides and back.

will probably replace the seat with Corbeua seat.

Replace gauge panel and gauges with auto meter.

Drove it into Nashville last weekend. Its about a two hour drive. That's the farthest we have taken it so far. Its driven to and from the shop every day 14 miles each way. A few little bugs have been worked out each week.

I made some modular seat back panels for my super duty but it makes it kind of tight in the super duty because its an extra cab and not a crew cab so they cut into the space if I put any larger pockets on them. I made a set for the suburban and they work well. There is a lot more leg room in the sub.

I wasn't sure how I would make them work without an adjustable head rest but this is working great. Had them on a couple weeks now and they are great.

I started looking at the back barn doors and they are pretty flat. Started thinking about making panels there also.

This was the start. Made a panel and put it up using the existing panel screws just to see hat it looked like.

As you can see I still have the small useless spare tire.

My intention was to put a vehicle med kit we make on the back door. So I made a pouch to mount on the panel to hold it. It worked pretty well for only having the panel atached with a few screws.

Then though the same size pouch would hold a pair of 20' jumper cables so I made up another one and it worked perfect. then had enough room in the middle to hold the fire extinguisher so I thru together a pouch for that also.

It was clear the panels needed to be more rigid so when I made the next one a put a back on it making it a pocket and put a thin sheet of plastic inside then sewed it closed.

Put the new panel up on the driver side rear door and used all the screws to attach it and its going to work perfectly. I made new door strap limiters as well. Mine were shot and didn't keep the doors from opening all the way to the stops. The panels did add about 1/4 inch and you had to slam the doors to get them to close because the door limiting strap attachment pieces bolt back on top the panels and the panels make them stick out a bit more thus hitting on each other. I simply turned them the other way and problem solved. I did have to make the straps about an inch longer though other side the doors wouldn't open much past 90 degrees. Ill take pics to enplane what I'm talking about.

Looks like a really clean suburban to start with. Im guessing the camo panels are a vinyl decal of some sort? Where did you get the nylon pouch to hold the fire extinguisher? I need one of those quick fast and in a hurry.

Yes they are vinyl wraps. They were on the truck. I will replace them when its all done with a different camo patterns and company logos.

I make all the pouches, panels, and visor covers. I own a company that makes nylon tactical gear.

added some rigid D2 LED lights to the front bump/er yesterday. Had not ever used them before. They are bright and very white but don't have the throw of say a Hella 4000. Definitely will leave them up front but today I picked up a pair of Light Force 170 stikers at Four wheel parts to add up front also. Also grabbed a Viair 400 compressor, ARB air down tool, Hi-lift Extreme jack, and a few other odd and ends.

Picked up another Craftsman tool set to keep in the sub. Will make some pouches and bags to organize them tomorrow and keep them on board.

Stopped on the way home at a truck stop and grabbed an SWR meter so I can get the antenna and CB matched up.
