It seems this is a popular unit so I thought I'd concentrate on this one...any reasons not to purchase from this manuf?

My question - difference between there PST & SSW model?

I'm purchasing this device purely to run accessories off my 2nd battery (in the truck). I'm not currently running solar, but would like to one day.

I haven't used either model - but I think that the SSW is a newer model that will be replacing the PST. Samlex has a pretty good reputation...

The specs look similar electrically - the no load current draw of the SSW is listed as 0.5 amps while the PST is listed at 0.85 amps. That would be a good reason to consider the SSW (which also is cheaper) - especially if you are considering solar.

The SSW also weighs less - 2.2 lbs (?) versus 5.4 lbs for the PST. The SSW is also significantly smaller as well. Usually, if they are able to make is smaller and lighter that also means it will produce less heat - i.e. it is more efficient and needs less heat sinking etc.

I hope this helps... be sure to post what you get and how it works out.
