The Liliputian Systems portable fuel cell offers a way to recharge your small electronics when far from your home or vehicle. The system can recharge devices like a smartphone or portable GPS receiver via its USB port. The fuel cell produces enough juice to recharge phones, but not tablets or laptops.

The device converts butane at high temperature into electricity, CO2 and water vapor (but remains only slightly warm to the touch when in operation). There's enough butane in the replaceable fuel supply to recharge a phone 10 to 12 times. The fuel cell and butane cartridge pictured above is about the size of an old style thick cell phone.

The fuel cell is completely sealed, and is safe enough for the FAA and Homeland Security to permit its use on commercial aircraft. The butane cartridge is not refillable, and should be recycled after depletion. The cartridge will cost about the same as "a coffee at Starbucks," according to the manufacturer. No word on the cost of the fuel cell itself.

Liliputian Systems has entered into a distribution agreement with Brookstone, and they're looking for other distributors.
