Where are we going? I don't see anything out here...

I had the chance to take a colleague of mine out to the deserts of south-central Utah. He has been in the state for the past 25 years. However, he never took the turn off of Hwy. 24 across from Goblin Valley State Park.

"I have always seen that road but never knew where it went." Well, it was time to show him what the road led to...The weather was ideal! The canyons glorious! The solitude marvelous!

We packed the frig and headed south. Our first stop was to see some rock art located right off of I-70. We then traveled south to the road that he had seen in the past...The Maze road I call it.

The desert holds its secrets. "What's out here?" he said as I decreased the tire pressure. I told him to be patient...You will see.

There were a few roads that we found that have been closed. Well, I say "roads"...More like 50 year old mining tracks. It was crazy to see what the miners did to get their materials down to the bottom. Today, the "roads" are used to find the hike out of the canyons...It was a blast to see where the "road" would lead us next...Eventually, it did top out!

We were in the Bluejohn area along with checking out some canyons out in the western part of Robber's Roost...

Did you stop by Hans Flat Ranger Station and say hi? Blue John is too busy for me and there are way better canyons than Blue John in the area. It looks like you were prepared and careful, Blue John causes us a lot of stress from clueless people that watched 127 hours...

I have heard of some craziness happening in the area. No, didn't get a chance to stop in to say HI. Canyons in the area? Oh yes, there are some beautiful ones...especially out on the High Spur road. Do you do some canyoneering? I will come see if you can go next time

The canyons out by Ecker Ranch are gorgeous! Didn't see anyone in the blue john complex. I think we got lucky...

I go canyoneering for work so I guess I am into it! I usually go around the steep stuff and go down the sandy washes and slick rock. I am usually by my self so I stay away from the ropes and multi pitch routes untill someone gets stuck or hurt and I have to find them...

As far as stories about the bone heads that come down here I will have to say no comment!
