Hopefully it is as easy to set up in sand at the beach. I have not set it up in any wind yet but expect that it will hold as well as the guylines are capable of.

That metal handle isn't sitting/rubbing on the roof is it? I'd assume someone wouldn't make something like that... because that would bother the hell out of me if it was... every shift in the wind could be scratching the roof...

Nice to see a WJ; very similar set up to what I was running on mine. For the spare wheel, I modified the brackets that allowed me to have the spare wheel "up side down" in the well. Like that, the rim was forming a "bucket" in which I crammed towstraps, shackles, jack and some other stuff. Probably one of the easiest and most useful mods I made to WJ.

Nice, I think of a WJ with the OME springs and 31's or 32's as the ideal expedition setup that can be a comfortable DD.

I lived all over the state from , Camden/Rockland area to Lewiston, Auburn. I now live in Greensboro, NC. We deffinitely need to get together next time you are down this way.

It does look that way from the picture but I am certain it is not because it would bother the hell out of me too. I actually will not be using that rod next time I set it up because my factory roof rails are long enought for it to not be needed.

I have actually been contempating a way to do exactly what you are talking about. I am affraid with my tires not having much bulge that the wheel will make contact with the spare well rather than the tire. It sort of domes up in the middle. I know a couple good hits with a BFH will fix that but it is not my style. I have found that with the wheels I have I can utilize the space underneath quite easily since they have large gaps in the spokes. I would love to see pics of your setup if you have any.

I am loving it so far! It should be even better when I get my 5100s installed.
Thanks to everyone for reading and giving input. We have been gearing up for our first big trip coming up in two weeks so I will have much more to post.

We are headed to the Outer Banks in two weeks and I have a lot to do between now and then. My first priority is to make sure my wife and daughter are happy so they will want to go camping/overlanding again. My second priority is making sure that we have all of the things necessary to make them happy and getting "Dinosaur" to carry it all.
I was planning on building a complex drawer system after reading through the 500 pages of Post up your drawer/storage system with all the amazing setups from other members, but decided against it and stuck to K.I.S.S. I am very happy with the outcome and this will be much easier to get to the spare tire well when needed or remove altogether for solo camp trips.

It is attached to four of the factory anchor points with turnbuckles so it is very secure.

I added four new anchor points to the shelf that are tied into into the same connections to the factory anchors. I also left access to the cd changer pocket that I have converted to storage for jumper cables and tire repair.

Everything will be secured with ratchet straps when we are traveling. I also purchased a Raingler net as an extra precaution and will add details once it arrives.

I found a bottle opener that we bought at Mast General Store on a trip to Boone when I was looking through my "Attach to Jeep" box and decided to add it to my Actionpacker chuckbox. I just used a piece of scrap wood inside the tote to keep it from ripping out of the plastic.

I got to work on the Jeep some more this morning and added some quick fist mounts to the hatch. Also out of the "attach to jeep" box

I attached them into the hatch structural support rather than to the shin plastic cover using some bits of hardware.

You can see that the hardware sits flush against the plastic which took a measuring and readjusting.
