Default Looking for Formal Training suggestions near Idaho Falls

I am able to use some ‘Reeducation’ money through work to pay for some formal photography training. I wanted to see if anybody could recommend any weekend workshops or classes in the Salt Lake, Jackson, Boise, Idaho Falls area. I am also interested in online courses as well. This can be software training as well.

I have already signed up for a Summit Series of Photography workshop in Jackson in September.

The catch is I have to complete all training by the end of September in order to be reimbursed for all training, and the money does not cover lodging, travel, or equipment/software.

So what would you guys recommend?

Does anybody have any experience with the Rocky Mountain School of Photography? They have a week-long food and product photography workshop in September I am interested in.

No classes at ISU this summer.

I am in the process of applying to RMSP and their Food and Product Photography class. Because I don't have any formal photography education, I have a couple of extra hoops to jump through. Hopefully my work is good enough to get me in.

Well I heard back from RMSP on my portfolio. While my compositions are strong, I have much to learn regarding studio lighting. They will accept me into the Food and Product Photography class if I can take a studio lighting class. The one they offer is during the week I am presenting to the Department of Energy so I need to find another option. Anybody have any suggestions?

Perhaps you can hire a local pro or work out an apprenticeship to a landscape or wedding photog. If they create a contract, would that count as formal training?

Another remote possibility (pun intended), is to sign up for Kelby Training, which is mostly online. The time investment and cost is the same, and it's formally recognized..

Kelby Training is pretty good. I watch a ton of their tutorials and gain tons of knowledge from them.

Apprenticing under a local studio photographer might be a good option when you go to the RMSP school or not. If you do attend, be sure and let us know how you like it

Thanks guys! I find I don't learn as well when I just watch online tutorials. I need 'hands-on' training, but I will still look into the Kelby training stuff.

I am working on arranging some training from a somewhat local professional… If everything works out, I will be spending a weekend or two in Salt Lake!
