MB Vario workshop manual...

EPC (parts) and WIS (documentation is a great resource, but very picky about how it installs.

I have both running, but the setup needs a key generated from the system MAC address (ipconfig /all) which you put into keygen.exe to start the key generation process. I've bought three sets of stuff and only one worked as expected.

The VM system I couldn't get to work at all.

Once you have the startkeys for EPC and WIS you can install the databases, THEN you have to set up server access accounts etc etc. Instructions given out with the discs in not adequate. I've probably done 20 installs before I got a handle on all the ins and outs of it.

If you change the IP address through changing from ethernet to wireless, disabling one and enabling the other, or anything else that affects the MAC address, it won't run.

It is bl**dy long-winded, but designed to stop it being transferred to another computer.

Now mine is running, I've deleted one set on one laptop and am about to put WIS onto the other laptop along with EPC.

You need to get printers etc installed if you want to print out parts drawings, parts lists etc etc.

I bought mine so I have the information for my 614D Vario.

Could anyone be of help and find me a part number please, for those that have managed to get the WIS/EPC system working?

It's a silencer I need, for a 2002 Merc Vario 814d.

The main stealer wants £430+VAT which seems a bit steep but if I know the part number I can look elsewhere...

Thanks in advance.

PS, if anyone is able to help I can PM my chassis number, didn't want to broadcast it on t'web.
Cheers

You'll need to give the chassis number. Also I just broke my EPC installation so I can't help at the moment

My EPC subscription ran out a couple of days ago.

Last year cost me 21 euro for 12 months access. Today it is 42 euro for a years access.

I thought , maybe I got it wrong but after an email to MB this is the current price .

Lets hope all their parts haven't gone up 100% as well .

It is a brilliant resource though and I will be paying it

Thanks for the replies chaps.
I wasn't aware that you could pay for access to the EPC, how is that achieved Neil?

Hi docka
You should check that price .... I bought a new silencer last week for my 2001 £100 odd quid .... Rygor ( commercial Merc dealer )

Andy,

Do you have a part number for your silencer, they seem determined to charge me £430 for mine, perhaps it's a different part?
Cheers

My experience is that for general small parts mercedes dealers in europe are quick and fairly cheap. With your reg number they can get you anything from a single trim clip to a new chassis. In the USA the same is often not the case, and you'd do well to make friends with someone who lives near a merc commercials dealer

If I needed something larger like a turbo or an ac compressor, these parts are not normally manufactured by merc, so I would use the part number to look for a genuine part from elsewhere and avoid the markup.

I've been out of action for a while so haven't been able to pick up forums as much as usual.

I have heart surgery due before the middle of August and the med's I have to take are slowing me down a bit, to put it mildly!

Our 614D Vario has had a fair bit done to it now, we are at the stage of fitting panels over the original window holes and then new tinted windows are going in.

You can follow the work here:

http://www.stationary-engine.co.uk/Mercedes/Mercedes1.htm

or on the USA server here:

http://www.oldengine.org/members/diesel/Mercedes/Mercedes1.htm

Work will resume after I have recovered from the heart op, but lots of planning going on behind the scenes.

Eventually we should have this and the big 6-wheel drawbar turntable trailer on the road next year.

Regards to all,

Peter

Does the 814D have the electric compressor? It's got full air brakes and a water-cooled mechanical compressor on all the ones I've seen, the 614D has the electric compressor and vacuum service brakes, the compressor just supplies the parking spring brake cylinders.

I'll check to see if the parts book shows the location of that relay.

Hi guys,

Have never posted anything to this forum but have been following the MB and Vario related threads for a while.

We are currently in Vancouver and traveling from Canada to South America in our converted Vario 814d 4x4 (will try to upload some pics later).

We've had some minor problems with the AC unit, cabin ventilation and are looking for some specific small plastic parts like a streetview mirror bracket and a light fitting for one of the top lights on the back of the vehicle.

Mercedes Vancouver hasn't been very helpful, seems they are more into luxury cars than helping us out but anyway. They say they don't have access to the workshop manual.

Does anyone know a good independent guy or shop in north america? Just for future reference. Someone who is willing to improvise instead of just saying: no, we can't do this and don't know this vehicle.

I will try to order the specific parts from Germany or Holland (where we are from) and fit them myself. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Sorry if I've already posted this, but any worldwide traveler with an electronic MB vehicle should have a Mercedes Star diagnostic computer with proper multiplexer and connectors, I recommend this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MERCEDES-LA...1f7f8cf&pid=100005&rk=1&rkt=2&sd=151229356269

It contains workshop manuals for all Mercedes vehicles, as long as they come from the electronic era. What year is your truck? Which engine does it have? If it is a 300series diesel (predecessor to 904LA) does it have an ECU and round 14 pin diagnostic connector? If so you need this system.
