    Default Starting some expedition mods...

Started this weekend making the TJ more expedition friendly. There are only a couple of things I currently plan to change, one moderate and one extreme. Starting the moderate one now, I currently have a 10 gal. fuel cell behind the rear seat. Aside from 10 gallons being extremely limiting, I have no access to the rear of the jeep for gear. So I'm building a cell to mount below the deck, and a portion of the cell that is already installed will weld to the top of the new one and stick up through the floor about 4". Then I can keep my same connections, pump, fill nozzle, and gauge.

Here is what I'm trying to improve. I'm hoping to get around 25 gallons capacity.

Got it air tested to about 25 pounds (chased a couple of leaks), and started on the integrated skid pan, but I ran short of materials. Have to finish the skid and add mounting tabs next weekend.

Well, I never got back on the fuel cell. Life and an occasional touch of laziness git in the way. I hope to get it finished this year before the trip. We're making 2 weeks this year, back to the Silverton area, but a wider range. Catch Wheeler area on the way up, a few days on the east side around Lake City, then who knows. The recentered H1s with Baja TAs were extreme overkill last year, so I switched out for some lighter hiking shoes.

Nice rig, jealous of your Silverton trip. We've been there twice, love it there.

TSL SX's are a bit overkill for Silverton as well! I won them at KoH a few years back, need to get some use out of them.

Yeah, I ran the TSLs on my last rig before the Rubicon. It appeared to be an XJ, but wasn't. It was a crawler - trail rig only on 38" TSLs. I can't imagine running them on the road regularly. Of course, that may be because of the rig I ran them on.

You would have to be nuts to run this thing on the street anyway. It hated pavement and concrete. Spooled in the rear and Detroit in front.

Looking forward to seeing the next steps of this! Great work!

I was considering adding a pony tank under the tub but welding it myself like you are. Are you coating the inside of this cell with anything? Mild steel I assume?

Yes, mild steel. Not planning to coat it. If it starts giving me problems later I will. Keep it full and run it, hopefully I won't have problems with condensation or water from the pump.
