looks like I'm joining the Land Rover Club

Well my cousin came down today for a family get together and to eyeball a mustang my mom had for sale. Well he agreed to buy that and asked me if I could tow it for him in a couple weeks, I said sure and jokingly said I may have to haul something back down. Him and his dad have quite a collection of vehicles. So he asks if Im serious and offers up a 1994 discovery with v8 and auto trans 100k ish miles but top end of engine has a "tick" but comes with another engine from a rolled over rover (unknown condition). We hammer out a deal, I tow the car get the disco out of his yard and we will settle up later, which means a couple of small jobs, no money out of pocket. He says the body and interior are in great condition. It was his ex-wifes car and I know she kept it in top shape. I think Ive done ok. Pics to follow in a couple weeks when i bring it down.

Im pretty diehard jeep guy but have always wanted a Rover, so it looks like the stars are aligning lol. So I will probably be looking here for advice, diagnostic help and common problems.

My 1995 had a "tick", never had to do anything about it, came and went, put 445,000 kms on it before it went to the next owner. Never had to do head gaskets either.

I may try to sort it out, going to run it for a while once get it and go from there, I know this one has had head gaskets at a point in time.

I love my cj5, but its goong to be nice to wheel something more comfortable and have something to whell mwhile i cut it (jeep) in half

Personally i think you making a big mistake by joining a rover club. or buying a rover.

Welcome. Run your 94 Discovery (aka D1) and see if the source of the sound is coming from the exhaust manifold (passenger side of the engine). Mine had a hair line crack and would make a ticking sound. Had it replaced and sound went away. May not be the case for your D1 but a lead to check into.

Have fun w/the Land Rover; and literally join a local LR club to get more of out ownership and your vehicle including where to find inexp replacement LR parts and highly recommended localy independent LR mechanics.

Thanks I will keep that in mind. I also intend to join a rover club also, atleast hit up Uwharrie Safari. The guys aroun NC know what that is. I just cant let my jeep buddies know about this

Thank you, Im already there with my jeep, now im just gonna burn up the check point twice as fast.



As far as repairs/maintenence goes what should I be expecting with this at the 100/120k mileage?

And I plan on setting this up mainly for winter, wheeling NF roads in the snow and what not. What would be some of the first recomended upgrades?

You will love the Rover.
Just keep her oiled up well and you will be fine.

FYI,
when my 98 D1 was stock, it kicked the crap out of my brothers 4-door wrangler (2009).
Now that i have wheels and a lift, he cant even keep up...

I believe we will. I think were going to keep it pretty tame mild lift and a set of pizza cutters, really looking foward to something thats going to be comfortable to wheel and take on longer trips
