Default expo trailer thru Centro and Sur

didn't get any responses in the planning section so I am trying this one to see if anyone has current or past information or input regarding the use of a expo type camp trailer (adventure trailers type or similar) for a trek south through central and south america? looking at differnt options and this looks like a good idea, but if it is x2 the hassles at borders and what not, may not be worth it.
    Anyone?
    thanks,
    ed

How many people are in your travel group? Do you already have a vehicle suitable for the trip, or will you acquire something new?

Mounting the camper on the truck makes for a tall vehicle, which is less maneuverable in villages with narrow streets and low overhanging wires. A lower profile also means lower wind resistance, so better fuel economy than a truck with big camper. A trailer also means the tow vehicle is not stuffed with camping gear, leaving more space for people.

A disadvantage of a trailer is that the rooftop tent needs to open wider than the vehicle, which may not always be possible. Any sort of popup is not overly stealthy, which may attract unwanted attention compared to a vehicle that doesn't lift its roof when camping.

You'd need some practice driving with a trailer before heading into unfamiliar territory. Maneuvering in tight spaces and backing up take some experience.
