Going out camping for what is hopefully the last time in the MtnWsty this weekend.

Spread the word that an awesome vehicle is for sale.

And, the vehicle is going to a mechanic next week for a potential buyer to have it checked out. I'll report back the findings to this thread so folks know as much as possible on it.

Thanks! It was a bit too hot for us, espcially with red-haired, fair-skinned wife and kids. Back home in the cool pines and had some time to wash and wax the van this morning.

    Not too bad considering.

I’m so surprised no one has snapped this up yet!

Maybe links to the build thread on TheSamba or here will help.

Bump for the beautiful Westy from a seller who’s a first-class guy. You can’t find these for $12,000 in this kind of shape.

I wish I had room for it

    Thanks Linda.

I've edited the original post to include as much information as I could think of at this hour.

The van is a 1985 Vanagon GL full Westfalia package, with 297,000 miles.

The engine is an EJ22, out of a 1997 Subaru Legacy and was purchased from a Subaru specific yard, and the owner supplies EJ22s to lots of of the conversion folks. The motor has approximately 80,000 miles on it, and has had almost every seal, o-ring and wear item replaced on it, without pulling the heads. You can reference the two sheet shown below for the exact items.

Tom Shiels did the wiring harness. The ECU is mounted under the rear seat, and has all Subaru diagnostic, test and OBDII ports.

When I did the conversion, I replaced the radiator, thermoswitch, all hoses in the coolant system, and sensors in the coolant manifold. I installed Rocky Mountain Westy SS coolant pipes, specific to the conversion. The coolant manifold is a reversed set-up done by Leon Korkin(Korkwood) and works wonderfully.

The engine is mated to the transaxle via an Outfront Motorsports adapter plate, and uses a heavy duty clutch kit and pressure plate from Van-Cafe. The transaxle has a new output shaft seal, and throw-out bearing. The cross-arm shaft and bushing were in good shape and were left alone. I have a Van-Cafe cross arm shaft bushing kit that will come with the van.

The van has a Westy Ventures TDI starter adapter and Bosch TDI started installed. This allows for zero hot start issues.

All four CV joints were replaced with new ones from Van-Cafe, along with the output flange seals, clips, caps and new boots installed. I also cleaned the pressure port at the front of the transaxle, and drained and filled it per specs. Shifting is a little stiff the first few times, but smooth once warmed up.

The engine is supported via a Small Car engine carrier bar, with new VW motor mounts. The exhaust is a Small Car SS single port header, with stock VW j-pipe from a 2.1L, and a magnaflow universal fit OBDII cat. The muffler is the stock 1.9L muffler on Small Car muffler mounts, with the stock tip.

The intake is the stock Subaru style airbox, and the throttle cable adapter is the Leon Korkin version.

The oil pan is a shortened, reinforced steel unit fro Burley Motorsports.

The tires are stock size BFG AT from Discount Tire with around 1000 miles on them, and road hazard certs. The rear spring have AirLift air bags installed, and all four corners have Napa Gas Grande shocks.

The rear bumper is a custom Andrew A. Libby piece.

The heater core is new, along with foam for all the various flaps. I have replaced the front heater control valve with a brass ball valve as I had two valves that broke almost straight out of the box. I have a spare stock heater control valve should a person with to return the set-up to stock.

The VSS is a Dan Fleming productions and has been working fine. There are no ECU codes.

The canvas poptop has a small cut at the top of the front, and some small holes in the rear. I have sealed the rear holes with Aqua Seal and have had no water intrusion issues. There are two sets of artificial rain gutters installed, as well as Jack Bombay HD pop-top shocks.

The fridge has been removed as I use an Engel. I still have the fridge in good condition and it will go with the van. I installed a GoWesty flue vent block off plate, but also still have the stock items.

The stove, sink, faucet, and water pump all function properly.

I have replaced all interior bulbs with LEDs from Van-Cafe.

I have installed an RMW locking steel drawer under the driver's seat.
The AC lines will need to be adapted from the Subaru compressor to the VW lines. All AC components were functioning properly at the time of the conversion. You will also need a new drier, and AC recharge.

The power steering rack has a slow leak that only occurs when the van is moved without the engine on(rolled around the driveway without wanting to start the van for a short interval). The boots are torn and worthless, but I have two new boots that will go with the van for the steering rack. The Subaru pump hard lines were adapted to fit the VW lines by a local shop.

In the Vanagon community, this is not a unique vehicle by any means, but is still a lot better than most stock vans. I have fixed, replaced and upgraded with care and the consideration that I would be the owner of this van for a long time. Given that other vans of this nature are going for $14k-$24K, I believe mine is priced fairly.

Thanks for taking the time to read through all of this, and for looking at the van. I hope that someone will by it soon so I can finish out my schooling and get on with my career; I think you'll enjoy the van more than me as the hard work has been done already.

The vehicle is in Flagstaff, AZ, local pick-up is desired, but we can figure out specifics if you really want to buy it.

    Asking price is $12,000 OBO.
