I've always wondered why more people don't choose the Sequoia, it actually presents a good value.

I have seen a lifted one running around Portland, ME a few times, looks really good, maybe a 3" lift on 32" MT's and some sliders. I really liked it.

Funny thing I'm finding is that in my price range (<$18k) there seem to be more low-mileage limited's than SR5s. I honestly don't want leather seats, satellite nave or a sunroof (my concern is that the sunroof could leak) so that's a little bit of a struggle. These Sequoias sure are loaded up with luxuries!

I picked one up a couple months back after selling my LX470 a while ago. Mine is bone stock w/ the exception of removing the running boards. I have 4 little ones to tote on our adventures and although the most rugged terrain that we are likely see is forest service roads, it is a great platform and a solid truck. There is virtually no aftermarket support but in reality, a 2.5" lift would be ideal to fit a nice 33" tire and be very capable overall.

My guess is a lot of people think a Sequoia is "too big" to be a good off-roader but the funny thing is, the Sequoia isn't any bigger than a full size pickup and people have been 'wheeling full size trucks since before WWII.

Actually in terms of wheelbase and weight, the 1st gen Sequoia is smaller than some other "expo" vehicles out there.

We were looking at one, but somehow I ended up with a 2012 tundra crewmax in the driveway. I was always impressed by them though, I say go for it.

Well, I drove one last night and didn't like it that much.

While the power increase over my 4runner was noticeable, it wasn't extreme, I guess because of the extra weight (the Sequoia weighs almost 1500lbs more than my 99 4runner!) The fold-and-tumble 2nd row seat took up a huge amount of room when folded and didn't look like it was easy to remove. I didn't measure it but it looked like with the 2nd row folded and the 3rd row removed there wasn't much more length than my 4runner with the seat bottom cushion removed (which can be done very quickly be removing two bolts on each seat cushion.)

I also didn't care for the leather seats or sunroof, and it seems like at least half the Sequoias in my price range are so equipped. I also did a little research over at Tundra Solutions and the number of people who reported tailgate problems was startling (it was almost everybody.)

After I test drove the Sequoia, I went to a different dealership and test drove a 4th gen 4runner with the V6. It felt much more comfortable to me in terms of size and in terms of how it was equipped. I still have to demo a V8 4runner, though, but it looks like the 4runner will probably be the way I go.

The V8 4th Gen 4 Runner is an awesome truck. I'm a huge fan of the 4.7, the mid range power that motor has is very impressive and when paired with the five speed auto in the 4th gen runner, it makes for a great combo. I do however find it annoying that toyota saw it fit to use a part time transfercase on the v6 runners, but not on the v8. I'm not sure if that's a factor for you though.
