Default CL Find: Chinook Camper 1977

    Could be an awesome project...

    http://fortcollins.craigslist.org/cto/3089272418.html

"1977 Toyota Chinook Pop-Top, This collectible RV will fit in a car garage, Great on gas:19+ miles highway, Four speed, Cab and Camper great condition, Adjustable Camry Seats, Gas Stove, Sink, Two Drawers, Ice Box, Heater (have but Not installed),Portable RV Toilet in closet. It has 33k miles on the odometer, but may very well be 133k. Toyota 4 cy20R engine, Runs and drives, Duel Batteries, Bike Carrier, Lots of hard to find spare parts.
    I have the title.

I have been driving the Chinook Burning Man and back (2300miles) once a year for the last 5 year. Although you can drive the Chinook, it does not pass Colorado emission. The motor is close to passing. I have all the Emission and Mechanic's reports suggested repairs.

There is rust ( Not on frame or Shell ) which needs to be fixed. Most is surface rust. I can supply more photos if wanted.

    Asking $1300 OBO"

sjxj wasn't posting it for sale, it was just a craigslist posting - which has since been deleted, meaning it's most likely been sold already.

http://www.searchcraigslist.org/result.php?q=chinook turns up a few interesting ones currently listed:

    1976 Toyota Chinook pop-top $2500 in Portland - http://portland.craigslist.org/grg/rvs/3576019591.html

    1972 Dodge Chinook 4x4 in Dallas for $7500 - http://salem.craigslist.org/rvs/3572319009.html

    1976 Chinook in San Diego for $3500 - http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/rvs/3573281893.html

on another note: I love the " It has 33k miles on the odometer, but may very well be 133k" ... bit. My 87 Tiger has the same mileage. I've always wondered what it was with 5 digit odos - did auto makers not expect their vehicles to last more then 99,999 miles before falling apart?

As for the 5 digit odometers. Frankly in the 50s thru the 70s cars/light trucks didn't often last beyond 100k miles. It is funny listening to people ***** that they don't build them like the used to. Back in the 50s it was common to need a valve job at 40-50k miles and bearings and rings at 70-80k miles. Even in the late 60s thru the 70s cars were pretty well used up by 100k miles. Now it is a different story. My work van has 225k miles on it and while it has had fluid changes every 3K miles it has been driven like, well like a company owned vehicle (Rode hard and put away wet) the only major failures to date have been a radiator at 150K and a starter at 210K. It's a 3500 Chevy Express 6.0
