We made some like these for a Boy Scout project http://www.shop.backpackingadventure...ve-Kit-EII.htm , and we used to sell a lot of them in our stores. The design works great, and the folks at Etowah Outfitters are a great group of people.

I love the simplicity of design of these stoves! Very simple to make, and use, with no moving parts. My 'super' backpacking stove i spent way too much on, was junk one trip due to a failed o-ring - cold dinner! As stated above, once you start tinkering with them, its addicting. I have found burn times vary dramatically depending on 'style' and use of these stoves. The side jet ones burn only about 1/2 as long without a pot on top covering the opening. The standard 'pop' can stove wont burn at all with a pot directly on it. Its fun to experiment. I like simple....
(ebay has an astonishing variety of these alcohol stoves and accessories for them if you are not into making your own.)
