MINI Clubvan coming

MINI is planning to expand its lineup in several ways for 2013. One variant may even be a good choice for soft-road adventure travel -- the MINI Clubvan.

The Clubvan is based on the MINI Clubman model, meaning it has two doors on the passenger side and barn doors in the rear. The van aspect is created by removing the rear seats in favor of a cargo area. Rear windows are replaced with polycarbonate panels. 12V power points are added to the rear.

I can imagine an ExPo Clubvan, outfitted with a set of storage drawers and refrigerator in the back, and a flip-open hardshell tent.

Silly? Maybe. You could have four times more storage space by choosing a Ford Transit Connect or a Nissan NV200 (coming soon). But the MINI Clubvan will give you 30 mpg combined, making it 30% more fuel efficient than these other tiny vans.

Colour and absence of space apart, I love it!

Stripped of unnecessary weight and bulky internal panels, given a touch more ground clearance and a pop top, I'd love it even more.

Next Mini needs to create the Mini Countryvan. Now that would be Expo Cool.
