Default What fluids are you using in your Monty?

    Hello all,

I posted this over on the wire as well, and I was just curious as to what brand of motor oil, and filter, and fluids everyone was using in their GEN1? I have the 2.6L and I am looking for a brand to use exclusively. I am doing a serious overhaul of my Raider, and just want to see what has worked, or not worked for people. I never really thought to much about oil until joining bobistheoilguy.com. But not to many people have Montero/Raiders on there.

    Happy trails to all

I have never used a Castrol product before. I really do not know much about them to be honest..

Really anything from decent brand name would work if correct weight oil is used during appropriate service intervals. For piece of mind I use Mobil 1. It's overkill. But I like to change it myself, take a look around, etc

I do have Amsoil in the differentials, and Pennzoil Synchromesh in my manual trans. However, the Synchromesh is about to come out, and Redline MT90 is about to go in.

Redline MT90 is a great product for the manuel box...I ran that for years in my Toyota and never had any issues.

Has the Castrol kept your engine clean? The previous owner of mine ran Royal Purple. The thing is spotless inside..

Royal Purple is good (expensive) stuff. If I weren't a cheap bastard, I'd use RP. But, Castrol GTX it will be for me.

I've never torn into the engine so I really can't say how clean the inside of the engine is...
From what one can see with a flash light down the oil port it is very clean. (Changing the oil on a regular basis is something I've always believed in.)
If the rig has a good record running Royal Purple, why are you looking at switching oils?
