Default Black hardtop and 112 degrees, insulation/paint options

The AC is having a hard time at over 100 degrees. Particularly the kid in the backseat, is not happy. I would have rather had a white top but you know how that goes Anyone had one painted? Did it cost a fortune?

I have seen some insulation options on the web. Some pre made and home made types that stick to the underside of the top. Seems like most of the top itself is hollow I have been wondering if anyone has foam filled one. I have filled two cooler tops with Great Stuff (expanding foam insulation). One turned out nice the other looks like it has a tumor. Though it has seemed to help keep things cooler longer. Not a very scientific approach I will admit. Interior sound would be greatly improved as well I suspect.

You could try a safari roof, get a fell length roofrack and skin the floor if it with a white reflective surface, metal or polypropylene or similar. It will keep the heat off and the air circulation drops the heat further.

Tint your windows, do you guys have window sox over there, basically a mesh style sock that slips over the rear doors. Keeps the heat out and can allow the windows to be left down whilst keeping the sun out (obviously not when you have the A/C on) I also have some extra sun shades for the rear windows

Paint the top section of the roof white, and go with any of the insulation choices. They're not a bad price, and they make a huge difference.

I've had my '08 JKUR hardtop insulated for almost three years and it makes all the difference in the world--

I've only used my A/C occasionally in the NorNv desert heat-

I use OffRoadHeroes (mod), for my hardtop insul., but one of the best/ reports has been the "hotHeads" JK/JKU kits-

    --google-it----"hotheads Headliners"-

Pretty close to 115° and I had the A/C on occasionally

Insulation inside would help but on my TJ I painted the center section of the roof white with solar flex roofing paint. It makes a great difference in the sun!

I installed the Rugged Ridge insulation mats. Quality and fitment was so-so but great price and makes a difference in keeping the heat out.
Next, i plan to paint the top section white and do the colder ac mod http://www.jkowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55310

On my CJ I used to put a windjammer on with the full top in the winter. The heater in the old CJ's were bad and sectioning off the cab made it tolerable.

Maybe section off the cargo area if the insulation isn't working well enough? You'll have less space to keep cool.

I feel your pain, even with the Taurus fan on high our A/C is barely cooling it off.

I know I have been looking at the options, especially with our 1 year old in a rear facing seat. I think I am going to pick up some foam board from Home Depot and try to make a liner fist, and if it doesn't work then I will buy one and paint the top of the top either white or silver to reflect some of the heat.

At the moment in stop and go traffic or if the Jeep has been sitting for a hile I feel like the top is cooking my brains.

Spray the inside of the hard top and paint the top. Hothead Headliners.
