Default Iceland Trucks: 44" tires on your Prado? Sure!

Iceland is home to some seriously cool trucks, many prepared for glacier travel. On my last trip to Iceland, I took a bunch of photos of the various vehicles.

    FULL ARTICLE: Trucks of Iceland

These are the trucks we used at various points of the trip-

HiLux on 44" tires - used for crevasse rescue training

HZJ78 Land Cruiser on 44" tires- used to cross the largest glacier in Europe

HiLux on 42" MTRs- used for local transport

Tacoma on 38s with a full long-travel suspension. Look for a full feature on this soon

Diesel 60 series- used to cross to Langjökull glacier

Prado on 38s- Sinuhe and I drove across Langjokull with this truck

There are tons more cool trucks from the trip. One of my personal favorites, a bone-stock Defender that you can rent from Hertz - awesome

It is impressive how well these trucks work with the big tires. Not only on the glaciers but in many other surfaces. Every bump and rock impact is much less with a 38" tire.

Whoever does the fender flares on these rigs is excellent at making them look like they came from the factory that way.

Scott: Looks like you finally found a legitimate use for a "Stinger" front bumper?

Some of the coolest trucks I've ever seen. Those folks have a way with making them look right!
