I should qualify "better" than the MM for you: The particle size seems to be more consistent. This is a non-scientific comparison between the grounds rubbed between my fingers; I have not looked at them under a loop. The resulting grind with the Pharos using the same beans is also fluffier than the same beans ground in the MM. The difference it makes in espresso shots pulled from either the mypressi or my Pasquini Livia 90 is consistently fruitier with a softer but deeper/enhanced flavor profile/depth of flavor than the MM. The MM shots however seem to consistently have a bit more "edge" or bite whereas the Pharos shots are a bit more "rounded" but with more levels of flavor. Maybe different acidity from the consistency or lack of coming in to play?

BTW: There is zero static issue with the Pharos in any of the climates I've used it to date including where we live at 5,000' with 10-30% typical ambient humidity levels of late spring and summer.

Its not that the Mazzer Mini is bad, because it has served me very well, but for my palate the Pharos is just better. Hope this helps...

$250.00 for a coffee grinder? Are you kidding me? some people just have way too much money!

not really the burrs used and machining needed to make things consistent ?

this is like saying if you paid more than $10 for a knife you are to rich !
or paid more than $5 for a flash light !
or bought synthetic line for a winch !
or bought a 12v fridge since a cooler will do
why would you buy those tires they are way more than these !
I can buy a full set of screwdrivers for $5 at the dollar store and I get like 30 of them if you buy anything else you are RICH !!

again most of us know the above is not true ! and while I can buy a flashlight for $1 we know a $20 is nicer and for many who really rely on them $100 or more does get us more !
same thing with synthetic line their are characters that some of us notice some wont !
same thing with a knife a $5 knife is not going to work like a $50 one or a $100 one or a $200 one and some notice the difference as the prices go up and up ?

many who buy a fridge agree its the best money they ever spent

once you get into ANYTHING the quality is noticed and you often get what you pay for !

And as long as you're spending your money, not mine; and I'm spending my money, not yours... It's totally cool. I dig the Pharos, btw.

Hey spressomon, any additional updates on the OE grinder from the past six months?

I'm curious about the Pharos to replace a Zassenhaus knee grinder in the camper.

Still loving my OE Pharos. I store it in a small padded bag in a drawer in the back of my LC. It stays adjusted...even over washboard and tough trails For ~20g of espresso from medium roast bean blend its about 70 turns. But because you have good leverage its not that big of a deal compared to a smaller grinder for same. Our traveling group pitches in and takes turns grinding for the 5-8 capps each morning and same # of espressos in the afternoon...

If you are thinking about ordering one right now just know Doug and Barb, owners of OE, are in recess mode and not able to process any orders on their site due to a family emergency right now...

And FWIW: Mine is bone stock...jury (me) is still out on the various mods available. I don't find it a hassle at all to shake the grinds into a small flexible bowl and then into the portafilter...works for me.
