it looks real clean, but as the LS you don't get a locker, and I think the axles are smaller as well, the ring & pinion gear are not the same sizes as from the SR. The locker is really what is going to hold you up on the trail, but the smaller axles will leave you totally stranded if they break. Also, has the 3.0 engine, not the 3.5. Rear jump seats are missing too.

it looks really clean though

Thanks for the tips! I am gonna send an offer today. The only thing I am worried about, which i forgot to mention, is the small crack at the bottom of the door, where the molding is (the 2 tone section). Is there a way where I can get this outer piece replaced or do I need to replace the whole door?

Thanks!!

sounds like a strange place for a crack.... if it's metal, someone could weld it up. with a picture or two, might be able to give a better go forward strategy.

Looks clean...not to rain on your parade, but I would hold out for a Gen 2 SR with a locker, or even better, a 97-99 Gen 2.5 with the SOHC 3.5L/locker.

I do like the cloth interior more on the LS, though.

Good luck!

Just to be clear, the smaller axles are the similar size as a Ford 9" - so not that small really. Plus I've never heard about a rear axle breaking in any of these rigs. Agreed the 9.5" SR axle is preferred.

The following have the older 2.5 litre diesels (potentially a good deal as long as the cooling system and timing belt are in good nick).

Perhaps with some TLC (I would say inspection mandatory on this one)

Decent deal as long as the repair list can be verified.

I have the same problem in Michigan.

Yep. The Gen 1's in the rust belt have almost all met their demise unless a significant portion of the life has been spent in the southern states.

my '88 - until 2008 in CO - I don't drive it winters.
my '92 - until 2012 in TX & CO
my '93 - until 2010 in CA

There is a nice Gen 1 I see every time I head to the hardware and I have seen 1 other 2.5 (a very nice black one) once around town, but other than that, all I ever see is Sports.
