Transcontinental Divide trip underway in 24hours and counting!

Well, it's finally time to get on the road. We will head north tomorrow after work for the 28 hour drive to Roosville, Mt. We changed our original plan to start at the southern end due to the fact that two weeks will probably not give us time to complete the whole trail. We want to enjoy it and take in the sights along the way. I figure we should make it into central Colorado before having to head home. We will complete the last leg next summer. Taking a north to south route will make this easier, as we live in Oklahoma. After the drive to Roosville, we will take a day to recuperate from the drive, and on Monday the 23rd hit the trail. I finally got the truck prepped with the installation of the Aluminess bumpers (with fuel can tray), 9.5 Superwinch, and Edgestar fridge. We will try and keep the thread updated. Thanks to JKwhite from the FJ Cruiser forums for the call the other night. He gave us some great information. Thanks again for all the info and offers guys. Hope to see you along the way!

Finally got a decent Internet connection and some time. We drove straight through to Cheyenne Wyo for breakfast and had to make a segue over to Guernsy to check out this section of he oregon trail. Some of these ruts are 5 feet deep. We also went to Register cliff where many of the emigrants carved their names in the rock. Quite a few trail graves too.


It was time to get back on the road to finish the 33 hour drive to Libby MT. We arrived around 2am at the lodge where we stayed the night and recuperate after the long drive. After breakfast we took in the local sites in the Yaak area. This is one beautiful place. We toured Libby Lake dam and got to actually see the turbines running. Very neat but they don't allow photography. We then headed for Ross giant cedars. I'll let the pictures explain.


The next morning was the official start of the trip. We drove to Roosville and picked up the CD trail. Had to start with a toast at the First and Last Chance bar on the border.


It's safe now. We killed all the bugs between Oklahoma and Canada!

Finally heading South!
Yes, UPS even runs the CD trail.
The trail is pretty uneventful at this point. It really gets pretty nearing Glacier National Park. Be sure to stop at Pole ridge store for scenery and baked goods.
Oh yeahhhhhh ! 4:30pm. Eat your hearts out guys.

We camped at lake macdonald in the park and decided it was time for a hike in the park after all the driving. 40 degrees and 35mph winds.



Lots of mountain goats.

This park is a must see. Spectacular!
Heading south to Columbia Falls and Whitefish the road and scenery started getting monotonous. We took a side trip to Great Fall for a visit to the fanous Sip-N-Dip Lounge. They have mermaids!

On our way back to the trail we passed this amazing canyon at Prewitt Creek on the Missouri river. Time for kayaking! Lewis and Clark camped here and it really was neat to paddle the same waters they did.


We camped at a KOA in Dillon MT, and the next morning on our way out of town, we ran across this amazing rock wall. The builder was the stud of all stone masons.


His niece said he built it in 1957 with rock he brought back from all his hunting and fishing trips.
Back on the road again, we headed for Bannock ghost town. This was the sight of Montana's first gold strike and original state capital. If you make it near here don't miss seeing this.



We were following the Adventure Cycling maps as much as we could. There were a few bike only sections but for the
most part it is a great route.

We scooted around the backside of Yellowstone and headed toward the Tetons.


There are lots of old mines in this area. We also found a trail up Comet mountain which gave us beautiful views of the Teton range.

Well we're camped outside of Steamboat springs Co tonite and my phone battery is about done. I'll post more later.

We're home from our greatest trip ever! Arrived about midnight Sunday. I want to do this report up right, so I won't be posting anymore in this thread. After sorrting thru the pics and notes, I'll be doing a proper report in the completed trips section. I wish everyone could have seen what we did.
