RTT and Truck Toppers.....Can they be mounted securely and used safely?

Like the title says. I have seen a rig or two that have a RTT mounted to their truck topper/shell, but no manufacturer warrants any damage associated with weight issues and in fact I have been recommended against it.

Does anyone have any personal experience with this set up that could comment?

We have quite a number of AutoHome users (including myself) that have mounted their tents on their truck toppers. I do recommend that you install track systems, they seem stronger to me than individual mounts, but both types work and we have had no failures in the past 10+ years.
