Question help me set up my droid x2 for navigation

Hi guys/gals. Ive had my X2 for about 8 months now and am really liking it. It performs everthing I ask and can handle way more I believe

I currently have the standard navigation app whichcomes installed. It works great for on road travel, but Id like to have more off road navigation capabilities and the ability to posibly create my own maps or at least plot coordinates to find my way back. Im not sure if this is posible with my device. I have read though many threads but honestly the discusion reads on a level of understanding the systems that I havent reached yet.

    So simplified:
    1. ability to plot way points
    2. keep my current device
    3. posible ability to create maps
    4. noob friendly

Any hep and advice is greatly appreciated

Really the only choice right now in android is Back Country Navigator (BCN). Look for it and read the description and see if it meets your needs. I have it on my Galaxy II and had it on my Evo and it works well. If you have an iOS device in your life (I use an iPad) there are tons more navigation apps available.

I use EveryTrail on my DroidX. Works great for capturing my track. I can then edit and upload tracks through website and use them on my phone. The free version is great and does enough but I got the paid version to support them after seeing how well it works.

I still need a better system for plotting paths but for capturing them when I'm out, this works great.

I have started using Trimble Pro and am experimenting with the Overland app. It has potential. but, recently, I found an app that allows you to use your phone as a gps receiver and hope to use it with the terrain maps in Microsoft Streets and Trips on my PC. I get Streets & trips for free, but it isn't very expensive. I found it does an excellent job for planning fuel costs.

Back country navigator can handle what your asking for if I understand your need to "create" maps. I plan trips on google earth and make a route line...Import that into BCN...cache the maps I need...and follow the line to where I want to go.

4.0 is ICS, pretty much the most current OS. BCN will work on that.
