Default 94 yj new seat recommendation

My seats are getting really uncomfortable....previous owner must have had one butt cheek bigger than the other. I drive long hours on backroads and washboard. Need a reclining seat that will hold up to the elements. Targeting around $300 per seat. Looking at quadratec for ideas. Looking for recommendations....

I think you get what you pay for in a seat, I would make damn sure the seat was comfortable rather than the right price/look.

I'm a fan of the suspension seats that PRP or Mastercraft offer, you're going to pay through the nose for them if you want recliners, well worth the expense IMO. I'm getting old, my doctor says I'm fat, and I've got a sore back, I love the PRP's in my rock Jeep, can honestly spend hours in them in relative comfort. PRP recliners (with heaters) are on my short list for future mods on my LJ.

    HI,
I make no claim that these are the best. They certainly are not the most expensive. I replaced the stock seats with Best Top seats. They recline, and are comfortable for me. They are not heated. I'm quite happy with them.

Good news is your working with an older jeep. The YJs have a fairly simple mounting system and less room restrictions for getting seats to fit (as opposed to say an XJ or Grand Cherk). One solution is to hit the local salvage yards and test ride a few. See if you can find a seat from something that feels good to you. Chances are pretty good that it can be made to work in a YJ pretty easy. Don't be bashful... park your butt in all kinds of makes and models. Granted, some are just obviously note gonna work (like an old bench seat or some sofa-gone-auto Caddy type deal.. butt you have a wide array to work with. If you find some in a vehicle that feel good but are beat up to much you could always either recover them or search flea bay for a pair from the same vehicle. I wanted nice seats in my 83 CJ8, I found a pair (actually the entire seat set but the rear was useless to me) of nice, heated black leather seats from an 04 Nissan Pathfinder. Paid something like 250-300 bucks, shipping included. I'm very happy with them and they were pretty easy to make work despite being from a truck with wider allowances for butts.
I'm currently looking at a new (2010-2012?) Honda something or another that is in a junkyard here in Germany. Same deal kinda, Black heated leather etc... but these will be near free as the passenger side air bag deployed. Since they are designed to do that i'll just DX the airbag and have an upholstery shop stitch the leather closed again. To easy.
I've run Mastercraft and Corbeau in a couple of my older projects. Confy? Oh yes! Affordable...well, not so much.
And one other thing... I used to laugh at the idea of heated seats...thinking they were just spoilings for the upper crust. Well... after 15 years in the Army my back makes Quazimoto's look like an arrow. And having the heat, even in temperate weather, honestly helps me feel better.
    Just my .02s.

    Excellent points all
I like the idea of heated seats... 9 years on jump and dive status has killed the back.

Had not thought about looking at other rigs....guess I could build an adapter if not a direct bolt in...

Will hit the bone yard this weekend

That's the more wallet friendly solution.
You ever get over to Military Jeepers site? Lots of good active and prior service folks there.

IF your jeep is daily driver the go with a replacement seat like a Bestop or Rugged ridge. Suspension seats are PITA to get in and out of on a regular.
Suspension seats have their place but... they all leave you wanting more convenience when you stop off for the frequent trips to the fuel pumps.

PRP makes a "daily driver" version of their suspension seat that has easier ingress/egress.

for me (not a skinny person) i picked up a set of seats from o'reilly auto that worked good, reclined, flipped forword for acces behind, and were comfortable (for me), they were on sale and i paid $200 for the set.

if you want to go PRP give kert a call at www.diy4x.com i dont know if they are on his site yet but he is a dealer for them.

main thing is try a couple different ones out if you can and see whats comfortable for you.
