Default Question about vehicle worth ('05 4Runner).

My mom is thinking about selling her 4runner and downsizing. I checked kbb.com so I now what they say but I was wondering what you guys thought she could realistically get for it. The vehicle is as follows:

    2005 Toyota 4Runner Limited (white).
    57,xxx miles
    V8 full-time 4x4
    locking rear differential
    Air bag suspension (factory)
    tow package
    Factory navigation
    Sunroof
    etc.

My mom is the one and only owner of the 4Runner and all service was performed by the dealership. It has never been offroad and has been really well cared for.

    Thanks for your opinions.

Who put the locking rear diff in? Curious about why someone spent the $$ to put a locker in a 4runner that was never taken off the road?

Or do you think the center diff lock is a rear locker? Because it's not, that's the center diff lock. There was no rear locker option in any 4runner from 2003 - 2008.

Having said that, IMO KBB and Edmunds undervalue used cars. I think the reason is because with the economy stagnant, a lot of people who used to be in the market for new cars are buying used, which drives demand for used vehicles (especially late model, low mileage used vehicles which are substitutes for new) and drives up price as well.

As someone who just went through the process of searching for a used 4th gen 4runner, I can tell you that in the Denver area, a vehicle like you described would probably go for between $17,000 and $20,000. The V8 and the low miles make it very desirable. Since it's a limited I assume it has all the bells and whistles.

You might also go over to the Toyota 4runner forum (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/toyota-4runner-forum/) as they may also be able to give you some good info.

Thanks for clarification on what I called the locked rear diff. There was nothing added aftermarket so I was mistaken. And yes, it came with the bells and whistles.

I'd say to look at the market... Not the KBB.

I'm watching a couple on eBay right now... 2005 Limited. One with 49k for $17.9k. Once with 55k for $18.3k. I might be interested depending on location. Feel free to PM me.

Yeah, a 4runner with miles that low and a V8 wouldn't last long in Denver. Just for reference when I was looking for mine I came across 1 V8 4runner that was in my price range (<$18k.) It was an 04 and had 125,000 miles on it. A dealer with an 05 that had under 60k would probably ask for at least 20 or 21k and would probably get it. Toyotas are crazily overvalued here.
