Default Black Mountain/Idyllwild, CA Micro Adventure

I did a quick solo trip up to Black Mountain/Idyllwild, CA this past Saturday to test my camping gear and new to me 03 Land Cruiser. Thanks to FishPOET for his great descriptions and maps http://www.myjeeprocks.com/forums/showthread.php/18409

Here's the first time the LC has probably seen dirt on the way down to the water puddle/crossing on 5S09

Looking down into the desert and I-10 from 7,000 feet

    No 4 Low required.

I snagged the last yellow post site at 7,600 feet.

Took a quick hike up the Pacific Crest Trail on Fuller Ridge.

Great views from the forest to the desert and windmills in the pass.

    San Jacinto Peak.

Trip, rig, and gear were a success.

Thanks for the kind words. It makes my day when someone uses information that I shared to enjoy a weekend in the forest.

Looks like a nice outing. That sure is a great area to get away to during the summer. Thanks for the report!

    Default trip question.

Thanks for report and pictures plus link to fishnet for yellow post sites.

this brings up a question that i have not been able to answer.

it seems to me that i read awhile back that the court in our nanny state
said it was illegal to enforce the adventure pass requirement and that it
was no longer needed, does anyone know for sure?.

as this area is just up the hill from us,but have not done any exploring in the map areas.

    thanks for any info.

Default Road Conditons: Black Mountain Truck Trail to Fuller Ridge Trailhead

    Hello,
I came-across thearticle regarding your drive to the last campsite on the Black Mountain Truck Trail in Idyllwild. My wife and I are Pacific Crest Trail Section Hikers (I hiked the 2650 mile trail in its entirety in 1982). Our next leg of the trail intends to exit at Black Mountain Truck Trail at Fuller Ridge via staging vehicles at both ends.

How would you describe the road conditions when you drove it? Was it graded and do you feel you could have driven to that last campsite in a 2 wheel drive lower ground clearance vehicle? I have a Honda Element SUV, similar ground clearance to Toyota RAVs, Honda CRVs, Nissan Rouges, etc. Were there any significant obstacles you can remember (noticeable erosion, rocks, etc). Your help would be greatly appreciated. Looking to be out there over Memorial Day weekend

    Sincerely,
    Ken & Debbie Marlow,

4S01 is normally maintained in a condition that your vehicle would have no problems. I have not been on it this season (it gets closed for the winter) and I do not know its current condition.

Ken - You shouldn't have any issues if this road is nicely graded like last year.

I took my wife up here last fall and she loved it.

FishPOET, I have used several of your posts to explore Idyllwild. They have been a great resource and we love getting out there. I've never said thank you, so thank you!
