    Default 2008 Land Cruiser MSRP $63,200

    The Toyota USA web site now has a series of web pages showing the 2008 Land Cruiser. The MSRP on the web site is $63,200, not including delivery costs.

    http://www.toyota.com/landcruiser/

    Extra-cost options include
    * Voice-activated DVD navigation system
    * backup camera
    * Bluetooth® [4] wireless technology,
    * in-dash 6-disc CD/DVD changer
    * Rear seat DVD entertainment system

    Base price for the similar Lexus LX570 is $67,400. The LX base price includes the DVD navigation system and a front- rear- and side-facing camera system to help avoid parking problems (and maybe guide you over big rocks and along skinny shelf roads?)

    This is the first re-design of the LC in 11 years. The 2008 model's 5.7L engine has 29% more torque than last year's 4.7L model, and has EPA numbers that are just slightly better than in 2007.

    MSRP for the 2007 Land Cruiser was $56,215, so 2008 prices increase more than 12%. The 2007 model has more interior room (91 vs 81 cu ft), probably due to the boxy body shape, The 2007 has almost the same carrying capacity (1500 lbs), but only 6500 lbs towing capacity vs 8500 lbs in 2008.

    The 2007 model has pretty good aftermarket support for suspension and body armor pieces. It will take a while for the aftermarket to develop and deliver similar items for the 2008.

    I wonder if the local Toyota dealer is offering end-of-model-year clearance prices for the 2007?

    I knew this would happen. From a business perspective, Toyota needs to add the premium on the LC to differentiate it from the Sequoia. Otherwise why would anyone buy a Sequoia?

    For a consumer that wants a LC, it really makes other trucks more attractive - possibly Land Rover.

    Probably doesn't help that the Cruiser is built overseas and the dollar is weaker this year than last.

    You know, I don't hate it as much as I thought I would. Kind of looks like a cross breed between a 100 and a fj55 with a little Sequoia thrown in.
