    Default Warn or Engo

I built a bumper for my last suburban and it worked excellent, saved our buts a ton of times. I bought an Engo 12k winch and it never failed us. I bought it when i was trying to decide and read the winch shootout that Fourwheeler magazine did a couple years ago. Also at the time for the money i couldnt find anything to compete with it. I wanted to buy American but just didnt have the 1500 bucks to buy a good American winch. Now Warn has the VR line of winches that compete with the chinese made brands in price. My question is has anyone had much experience with the VR series of winches? Also after having the steel on my last winch id like to go synthetic this time. The Engo 12k can come with synthetic for 599, should i be worried about what type of synthetic line they used on their winch?

The VR12k winch cost a little more than that but with steel line so eventually id want to replace that but it wouldnt have to be right away.

What do you guys think, Get another Engo winch with their synthetic line, or get a VR12 from Warn with the steel and have to wait a while to put a synthetic line on there.

I've got an Warn VR10,000 coming. It is going to get installed early August on a EXO (expedition one) bumper / Toyota Tundra. I have heard that Warn's warranty is the same as compared to their premium line winches. That being said, if you don't winch often, Warn recommends that the VR line will do the job. I'll post pics as soon as I can.

I have had a 9.5 ti before and it was fine. It was always reliable but then again I used the winch twice in 3 years, so I'm going to give the VR a try...I have nothing but good things to say about Warn. Their customer service is exceptional...

i heard that their warranty was the same also so thats definitely a good thing. I use my winch alot, ive probably used it over 10 times in a few years (not always for recovery) ive used it for self recovery a few times and wouldnt have gotten out without it. Ive used it a bunch of times to pull other people out, pull cars out of the road or wash. Even used it to drag trees around the yard for a couple friends. Do you know is the VR line still American made or is it shipped out somewhere to be made? obviously not a deal breaker but if i can get an American made product id like to. I know Warns reputation is pretty good, but the Engo has been a pretty solid winch so far.

From what I understand the parts are manufactured overseas and assembled in the states. The parts are made to Warn's specifications. If they are willing to stand by the VR lines like the other lines, I am confident of my choice.

I have not heard about the other brand that you are considering...

    Good luck!

is Warn even still American made? or is it one of the "parts made in china and assembled here" things now?
