Default Back in business: Ferg's Taco Build

Well, I'm back. Finally. And this time it's a done deal.

Picked this sucker up today after months of searching (this is pretty much straight from the craigslist ad):

2002 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab PreRunner, V6, TRD
    -100,600 Miles
-Fabtech 3.5 in. lift kit/ dirt logic racing shocks
-BFgoodrich 33 in. mud terrain tires (just about done for...)
-Dessert rat powder coated black 16X8 wheels
-K&N 77 series cold air intake
    -Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system
    -2x8 in. premier pioneer subwoofers
    -custom subwoofer enclosure
    -Alpine 500 watt amplifier
-Alpine CDA-9883 head unit w/XM satellite antenna

    Immediate plans include:
    -baseline fluids
-timing belt, water pump, etc etc
-pulling the K&N stuff and putting the stock air stuff back on (lucky for me he still had it all)
-New tires (and probably wheels too)
-keyless entry (why oh why is it so hard to find the rs3200 for the 2002 model?!?!?)

    Long-term plans:
    -rear frame plates
    -tent/bike mount over bed
    -roof tent
-replace fabtech/dirtlogic with OME all around
-4wd conversion (i may hold off on this until I go for my ultimate FJ80 axles conversion one day... :P )
-and snorkel and bumpers and whatever else it takes to pretty much make it the Tacoma twin of my old 3rd Gen 4Runner

    Anyway, let the madness begin...again....finally...

Glad to see you back in the Tacoma ranks, but a prerunner? J/K. I'll just make some of the places a bit more challenging to get to. Get crackin on the 4WD conversion.

Ha! Honestly, I wanted 4wd, but since its such an easy swap to 4wd, and I have a loony desire to swap 80 axles front and rear, I wasn't going to let it be a deal killer for me. As long as it was TRD with the e-locker, I decided I could accept non- 4wd--obviously 4WD and TRD was what I wanted. I think though that I can prob count on both hands the number of times I had my 4runner in 4wd if you exclude the times I used it on my winter commutes on snow-covered Utah roads...and they don't have snow-covered roads on my current commute into Oakland... :P

Not to mention...these trucks seem to be getting harder and harder to come by and basically holding steady on the "going rate"...especially here in Kalifornia. Prices ranged from $23k (I know!) down to ~$10k for ~70k-200k miles with various options (DCabs only, I didn't look at anything else)

Ferg, there is a guy on Tacomaworld (username valon5150) that recently rolled his Tacoma and is parting it out. He's looking for someone planning to do a 4WD conversion to pick up all the parts for the conversion. Might be a good option for you to pick up the necessary part for your conversion at a good price. Maybe send him a PM.

If you are interested in doing the 4wd conversion I have 2 1997 4runners that will soon become one. I will have an Auto trans/t-case with 176K miles, CV's, front diff with 3.90 or 4.10 gears, drive shaft, etc. PM me if you are interested. Nice truck by the way, I'd love a double cab as a expo/daily driver!
1997 Dodge Cummins 4x4, NV4500, Leaf Springs on 1979 HP Dana 60, 4:10's, guages, airbags, exhaust brake, basic engine mods, 37 inch MTR's

Why are you pulling the K&N stuff off?
