Cap Lander pop up truck camper

A couple of weeks ago, Jonathan Hanson attended the first Adventure Overland exposition in Daventry, England. His report is posted here
http://www.overlandexpo.com/overlan...cial-report-adventure-overland-uk-show-1.html

When Jonathan said his favorite new product at the show was the Cap Lander slide in camper, I had to check it out. Cap Lander is a French company, with facilities located in Chauvigny, about 220 miles / 350 km south of Paris. The company web site is http://www.caplander.com/ The company started making composite bed caps for Land Rover Defenders (cap-lander, get it?). Recently, the company added a pop-top camper line called the Altai. The Altai is designed for the Defender, but also for mid-size pickups like the Toyota HiLux and Nissan Navarra.

The Nissan Frontier is essentially the same size as the Navarra. Here's a photo of the Altai camper on a crew cab Navarra.

And here's a photo of the Altai on a Defender 110, opened up for camping.

Note how the camper fits better in the bed of the Defender. Nissan offers a long bed model that adds 13 inches to the bed. That might be a better fit for the Altai than the Navarra in the photo.

The web site is short on details like the actual dimensions of the Altai, and what options are offered for the camper interior. The weight of the camper is 300 kg, or about 660 lb. The light weight is due to the camper's composite construction.

There was no price information on the web site, either. Maybe they sell through dealers.

Thanks, as always, for the reference. It's an interesting camping arrangement.

But am I understanding correctly that they used up a few cubic feet on fourteen water bottle holders and that this is, in the basic model, in lieu of a tank and pump? (Though there appears to be a fine water tank forward of the holders, so I guess this isn't the basic model.)

Am I looking at this right? If so, that's kind of an interesting approach to water storage. Just pull out a bottle from under the seat, use it to wash the dishes, brush your teeth, etc., and when it's empty, get another one? Seems like it'd get old fast, especially the refilling part, but as a sort of anti-glamping tactic, it might have merit.
