Progress has slowed for the moment as the Truck is going in to the mechanic to get the front axle seals replaced. Gear lube is running out of the boots that keep the grease in, yuk. It is noteworthy that this is the 3rd vehicle that I have purchased from Gov't surplus and all three had this problem (M35A2, M1009 CUCV, M35A3). Apparently the seals take a set or dry out from extended storage then leak when returned to service.
Insurance update : State Farm has rescinded the offer to insure with Comprehensive & Collision, will happily insure for Liability only. Another consideration with these big trucks.
I love this project. Back in 2010 I was this close to pulling the trigger on a 68 Kaiser Duece and a half. It had the whistler turbo and a the troop carrying bed with canopy. He wanted 5 grand and was in road ready shape. I live out in the country so parking /storage was not an issue. Also the wife and kids thought it was awesome. Wait, why the hell didn't I buy it again?

I like the Army aluminum medical containers for "containerized" storage, water, vermon, and humidity sealed. You can toss them around, use them for tables chairs leave them on the roof in a storm. I bought a whole pallet of them a few years back, as my one provider dried up. I have had these type storage containers (and at a camp I worked at) for 20+ years. Keep VERY well. Here is one supplier. I like the sammlest on pictured, and there is also an even narrower one (height wise) that is not pictured.

Oh I see, use those containers rather than crates. Yes that would be good as crates are a pain to open and close with 8 screws or so.
I had a 1966 deuce, got lots of good service out of it, though the manual transmission is burdensome and it was LOUD : no muffler, just pipe straight off the turbo. The box on the current project truck came off that old one...I have a pic here somewhere.
