Hi-Lift Mounting options

I had mine mounted on the outside of the rear roll bar on my YJ. I used muffler hanger u bolts. A bike cable kept it safe. It was between the roll bar and the rear window so it wouldn't come flying towards my head in an accident. My shovel was held in place in a similar manner. Now that's it's getting cooler, I should put it back on.

They were built in when I got the rack and off by a 1:4 inch so I cut out a few holes on the top.

Got my Hi-Lift (unused) and two sets of mounts (no idea who made them) for $80. I used the hood mount on my M416 to mount the jack to the lid rack. I haven't decided if I want to use the tailgate mount but I have that option for heading out without my trailer.

Hard to see . RThe jack on the Jeep is located on the hood at the hinge point.

2 different solutions but the same effect. Must be excisable when the rig is buried..

I used Smittybilt Hi-Lift Jack Mounts for a roof rack and welded the two pieces onto the outer hoop of my fabbed dual swingout bumper. Works like a charm.

I've got mine mounted on top of a custom in-bed rack I built:

It's sitting on top of three u-bolts, and I've added a strap on top of that. I'm a bit worried about what would happen in case of an accident though; hoping the three u-bolts won't shear (hi-lift would have to go through six u-bolt bolts), and if they do, the strap will hold it in. Might add a few more u-bolts or straps for extra piece of mind...

Nice 8020 rack. Have you had any issues with fasteners used to hold the the rack together (not the hi-lift mount) vibrating loose, or do they stay tight?

I would think you would want it as low and tight as possible. Every time I see a JK with a Hi-Lift on the hood, I cringe. I always imagine getting in a moderate-speed front end collision, and that thing flying off and hitting someone.

I mount mine inside laying across the back of Jeep against the roll bar. I wouldn't store any tool, to include a hi-lift, out side.

At the front of the bed.
