I have thought about this very thing, and why can't you just build drawers with the same angle as the tail gate?
Personally I think I am going to skip the big drawers, and construct cabinets of sorts over the rear wheel wells. Then build a sliding shelf to store stuff underneath.
The shelf then can slide out, and go on the deck to sleep on.
does your tailgate lay flat with the floor when you open it?

It has fixed more problems than I thought I even had!! I have a couple of refinements to add before it's finished (I don't think these things are ever truly finished!!) but here are the final few photos:

12v cabling is now finished, I have taken a 50 amp feed to the fuse box and then extended it to a 50amp Anderson plug at the rear to allow me to plug in the 12v microwave when needed.

I have also added the charger so the 240v system is now completed and working

I also extended a 175amp Anderson point to the front wing to provide a jump start point, this is isolated near the battery box to prevent issues, I have a boot and cover to add to the plug.

The shelf has been secured by thumb screws for easy deployment.

Just a quick question, im getting ready to start building a drawer system for my jeep xj. I was wondering what would be the best to bolt it to the body. I just wanted to hear what others have done thanks.

If you go back through this thread and look at pics, people have come up with tie down solutions to avoid bolting the box down.
