While I was still looking for a Tahoe, I found this site by searching for cargo box ideas. Its been quite an inspiration so I thought I'd share my build.

Built of 3/4" plywood (forgot which type but it was decently expensive)
Used 100 pound slides (couldve gone bigger but was trying to keep the build on the cheap side)
Overall dimensions were about 42" x 40" x 10"

The weight added up quickly so I cut out a few areas to save a few pounds but not take away from the rigidity.

I added a coating of bedliner to keep any moisture from ruining it...and because I had it sitting around.

Top cut and drawers in. I wanted to be able to access it from the top if I was unable to open the rear doors.

Working great

The two drawers are about 28" deep and there is a full width section at the front of the box.

The box is held down by four turnbuckles rated at 250 pounds each to the stock tie down and seat rails. Pretty impressed that it is nice and quiet with all the stuff in there. I would guess that it weighs 120-150 pounds, its beefy.

And here is the final product! Pretty happy how it turned out, the side panels make ALL the difference.

Looks nice and welcome to Expo! Any problems with the hinged lid or top panels rattling?

The only problem I had so far was I didnt have the latches on the drawers originally and every time i accelerated, they slid out an inch or two into the doors. I've since added two simple latches which dont seem to rattle. I added a few felt slider pads and no rattling on the hinged lid and the two top panels are now tight since I wrapped the sides with the carpet so they shouldnt make any noise.

Being in SW Florida, there isnt much for a testing ground other than the pavement, but I plan on road tripping out of FL to Tennessee and Colorado soon so the boxes will come in handy for organizing stuff. And then im sure I'll find some rattles.

That looks great! I've been very happy with my storage box in my XJ but for some reason it never occurred to me to build a box for my wife's Suburban. Now you've inspired me! Great work!

My LR3 cargo build

Here is my build I just finished a week ago. It cost me under $200 to make it.

Just a supper simple sleeping platform for me, gana have some plastic bins slide underneath. And the bedding will go at the head under the hinge part.

Oh ya trust me I knw I have slept in my bed a couple times with my old platform and it rains a lot her in Kodiak. Luckily I'm not the tallest guy in the world so I do have a couple inches to play with. So, I should be ok, but I do plan on lifting the shell off and adding more weather stripping to seal it up some more. But thanks for looking out

Oh and the reason my bed was that wet is that I left the window and tail gate open when it was raining out while I put it together inside.

If mine stayed in the back 24/7 I most definitely would, but it only goes in there for when I go out camping. It is a good question tho you def dont see many people sealing them

I didnt seal mine because I didnt think about it. I put the bed liner on it, and inside the drawers in hopes that would keep it from getting messed up if any water got in there. Theres always next time!

I see you guys go thru the trouble of using bed liner or paint. I figure staining is better. Just wanna check to see maybe liner paint is better or other reasons for not staining.

I didn't stain, seal, or paint mine. I just didn't see the need. I also didn't build mine to last 10 years. I knew it was a 3-4 year thing.

The next one I build will be the same. No stain or paint. Just carpet on top. If it gets wet enough to destroy the wood, I have other problems.

Stain will do nothing for waterproofing wood, it's just color. You will need something to seal the wood, lacquer, water seal, bed liner will do a better job.
