Default I'm looking for a steal (really cheap bike)

You may know my current bike is a 1997 Honda XR650L. I am looking for a steal for a really good (reliable) bike for less than 1000 bucks.
Year? Newer than about 86. It doesn't matter to me if the bike needs some TLC cosmetically. The XRL did not run when I got it. But I am ok with doing basic fixings to get it going.

Anyone know of one of these steals? I'm in no hurry so can wait for the right thing to come along.

    Thanks,
    Scott

My brother Lucky Strike over on ADV has a 93(?) XR600R for sale for $1K. Check the DOG thread over in the East forums. It used to be Jimmy Lewis' bike.
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads.

With the current gas prices, we are looking into a street bike too! Wil has an 1 1/2 commute and the Taco could use a break and some TLC !

Let me know if you guys find anything!

Those are pretty similar to my XRL but a litte more road oriented. Haven't ridden but sat on one in Costa Rica, seem to be nice bikes. Wen/Wil Keep an eye out for a Honda Transalp. That would be right up ya'lls alley.
